Taxi driver returns wallet with Bt67,000 in cash to Russian

BANGKOK: -- A taxi driver Wednesday returned a wallet with cash in several currencies worth Bt67,400 to its Russian owner.

The taxi driver, Sukan Lalode, 47, said a foreigner hired him from Lebua Hotel Silom to Sukhumvit 16 after which he spotted the wallet at the back seat.

He later called FM91 to help locate the passenger. The wallet was returned to the Russian, Burdikhin Kirill, 34, at the radio station.

a graph for the year. Then we can clearly see if there is a schedule... :-)

Maybe the taxi driver had bad eyesight (he is a taxi driver you know) and thought thought the money was pretty much worthless rubble.

How about reversing the theme...say a tourist gives a taxi driver a big tip of Bt67K

Whilst I applaud the honesty of the taxi driver, the cynical side of me questions how often this is happening in recent weeks/months and whether they're getting desperate for some positive publicity.

Seems like there's been a rash of very careless "tourists" recently who don't check their pockets after leaving the taxi ... and how did the "tourist" pay for the taxi anyway, loose change from his pocket?

I've had a few socket wrenches pulled on me by taxi drivers....also plenty of threats when I accidentally-on-purpose leave the door open after they refuse to take me.... They're all "good eggs" really

Exactly! And it's having the reverse effect. By highlighting a weekly cabbie as "shockingly honest" I find it quite insulting to the "wallet finders" and the rest of the fleet as it is so obviously believed that they are incapable of being honest except for these rare instances. Shameful.

The cynicism is uncalled for. I come from a country that actually does have a a widespread culture of criminality (India) and my experiences with losing things in Thailand so far has been that I've always got them back. Countless times I've forgotten my cellphone or keys somewhere and every single time they were either still there or otherwise returned to me. Most Thais ARE indeed good people with integrity. They might indeed love money but most don't outright steal it.

Been here a long long time and yes, many certainly do.

As for people who have trouble with this story . . . things get returned here every day (just as other things get taken every day, just like anywhere else). It happens, get over it.

Age catching up, sometime I misplaced or left my sling bag with my wallet in cinema and roadside small thai restaurant which I was not regular there. After arrived home about several hours later discover that I have misplaced my bag. In one occasion Called cinema they said someone found it on the cinema seat. Went there the next day to collect it and everything is intact including @ 15,000 baht and some other valuable item. Same goes for the small restaurant, got back what I left there too. Some of you guys on TV just wanna bash that all... Sigh!

You have to understand some people spend their time here surrounded by the lowest levels of society in some of the seediest parts of this country. The have don't even grasped there is a entire society of people here not related to the whore and booze industry.

Why should we tip a taxi driver.? and also tipping taxi's is not a normal practice in Thailand. Do you tip your doctor or the cashier at Tesco ?

The taxi driver must be a multi millionaire,he is only driving a taxi as a past time.
