Overstay by 9 hours at Mukduhan - should I be concerned?

I'm currently on a tourist visa that expires Dec. 28. I plan to change to an Education Visa at Savanakhet the morning of the 29th. Technically I will be overstaying by 9 hours. My only option is to cross into Laos when I arrive at 11PM, then return to Mukduhan to sleep at the hotel then return back to Laos at 9 AM.

Should I just hope they forgive the 9 hours and go straight to the hotel in Mukduhan or should I take the time to stay legal and cross twice within 10 hours?

A tourist visa can be extended by 30 days if you didn't already do so.

At 11 Pm the border is closed, so if you do not want to overstay you have to adjust your travel plans and go a day early.

You will not be able to enter Laos at 11 pm. The bridge closes at 10 pm and the Lao visa on arrival office closes at 6 pm.

You will need to spend the night in Mukdahan when you arrive and then take the bus to Savannakhet the next morning.

You will pay an overstay fine of 500 baht when you leave the country.

If you get to the consulate by 11 am and apply for the visa you get your passport back at 3:30 pm.

Thanks for the info..you've saved me a lot of time. I just wasn't sure overstay fines could be paid at land crossings. Yes, already extended twice with <removed>

Personally, I'd recommend going a day earlier to avoid the overstay fiasco.

If you require a Lao visa and get it in advance, you could cross anytime until around 9.45pm.

Happened to me. In my case it was 7 hours and they charged me 500 Baht.
