On TRUE adsl connection my pings to Australian servers were consistently 160ms. A couple of weeks ago they jumped up to 250-260ms have have remained that high since. I know it's got nothing to do with my wiring because the exact same thing happened on my work wifi (also on TRUE).

Do you think it will return to normal or should I switch to 3BB? It's a shame because apart from the pings my current internet is pretty good.

Maybe better if you say where in Thailand you are, and provide an IP address for others to ping - then you might get some useful info...

Someone in another thread said it's due to some undersea cabling problem which has caused DNS rerouting...apparently they are taking the long way to Australia now.

It MIGHT be worth while rebooting your router. This will almost certainly give you a new IP address (assuming you're not on fixed IP) which might be faster. Of course it might be slower!

Have you by chance got a "Speedtest" result from before and after? The ping speed can sometimes alter without affecting throughput.

Fair enough, guess I had that coming.

I'm not going to be too much help, but the ping to that IP is all over the place on my TOT connect:

Also in Nonthaburi but TOT Fibre, not TRUE Docsis.

The same but through a Singapore VPN

It appears that TOT are routing via LA but the Singaporean VPN is through HKG.

Strangely, speedtests to a Sydney located server give similar results whether directly form my TOT connection or through the Singapore VPN.

Compared to my results, your previous ping times of 160 look pretty good. I have TRUE Docsis at my office (also in Nonthaburi) so I will try that when next there.

Is the extra 100ms causing you other problems? I wouldn't have thought you would notice much.

Surely some route has been changed for whatever reason.

My traceroute result suggest that the signal goes via the USA, Colorado (any2ix.coresite.com [206.72.210.136]).

Quite a detour, but from the 385 ms technically possible.

I feel your pain, believe me because I also have TOT Fiber2U. I pay for an additional TRUE adsl purely for the pings. Surprisingly both services work about as well as the other, the only noticeable difference being the pings. I downloaded an 18GB torrent the other day on TRUE - started it when I went to bed and it was finished by the time I woke up next morning. That's pretty impressive.

My traceroute looks similar (on TOT) - from the TOT IIG I get sent off to the USA, before making my way to AU.

Looks like someone has messed up their BGP tables.

Got ping of 246ms this morning/9am on True DOCSIS here in Bangkok.

post-55970-0-90099200-1419213433_thumb.j

I doubt the routing is going through the U.S. as my ping time to the U.S. west coast has been around 220ms for years on True DOCSIS and TOT ADSL. If ping to Oz was going to the U.S. first, then down to Oz, then back to U.S. west coast, then back to Bangkok that round trip would be in the 400 to 500ms ballpark.

Curious to see the ping from someone with 3BB to try and determine if it's a fkup in the ISP routing or if indeed there is a problem with the Singapore connection.

I'm still getting good pings to Singapore but even using a dedicated gaming VPN (WTFast) with chained connection via Singapore-Australia I can't get anything under 216ms.
