Krabi - Khao lak by motorbike

Featured Replies

Is it nice and good route to drive from Krabi to Khao lak? I think that I will drive this route back and forth with my gf by scooter. I have driven many times in Thailand but always 125cc scooter. Is there any nice places to stop between the route?

I used to drive frequently between Rawai Phuket and Bang Niang (Khao Lak) on a Honda Click. All of the drive is pleasurable except the bit in Phuket which is dangerous and nerve wracking. I think the drive from Krabi would be much nicer. There are many interesting places to stop en route.

Years ago I did the circular route from Krabi towards Trang then branched of to Thung Son and joined the Bangkok Road to Surat. Stayed the night there and then Westward stopping at the Ratchaprapha Dam and Khao Sot National Park. You'll need another night stop for these two but well worth it. Then set off to Takua Pa where the 2004 TSunami washed a large Fishing boat 2k.m into the Town Centre. Then hugging the coastal road South for about 30 minutes before arriving at Khao Lak. Another 40 minutes later you can pass the Town of Thai Muang and if you wish, cross the Sarasin Bridge onto Phuket. These days you are better top avoid the long detour to Thung Son and instead join the excellent A44 Highway near Ao Luk to Surat. We enjoyed it very much - only one Hotel in Khao Lak in those days and o'h that hard seat of the Honda Wave!
