Internet in Karon Beach (Phuket Island)

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I will be in Karon Beach (Phuket Island) for 3 weeks. I need internet to work and I know my resort wi-fi connection could be weak.

So I'm thinking about taking a USB internet dongle (or USB cellular modem, I'm not sure how you English people call it) for my laptop. Maybe just a SIM card for my phone (that I will use as a modem) would be enough?

Which provider and plan do you suggest? I don't care how much it costs.

Thank you

DTAC is working for me pretty well everywhere. You can buy a DTAC Happy sim with 49 baht, 12 GB data plan with unlimited speed for 30 days will be 799 baht.

799 baht + VAT? 855 baht.

Let's hope your Aircard/USB Modem/MiFi/Mobile WiFi is unlocked for use with any network.

That's correct, tax is not included.

If your air card is unlocked you will be able to use it with a sim card from true, ais, dtac or any other mobile phone network

If your air card is locked then you'll only be able to use it with a SIM card from the network it is locked to

ok, I don't own an air card yet, I will eventually buy it from ais or dtac

DTAC don't appear to sell 'Aircards'. Just AIS and TRUE, who appear to sell the same model, the ZTE MF65 for around 1500 baht. I would avoid that model and look for the AIS 3G PocketWIFI Huawei E5220 instead if at the same price, as it is easier to unlock for use on any network. Usually 50 baht or nothing. Then you can pair it up with any data SIM package worldwide.

More details of what it can do here

If you go for the AIS Huawei 5220, you may find this useful.

Once you have the unlocking code, look here

Once complete, you can use the data SIM from most any network, worldwide.

Using a phone as a modem is not always convenient.

If you do use the AIS pocket wifi then AIS have a package 1 month 799 baht for 12 gig download before it reverts to snail pace download speed. I used this when i had problems with my home internet and it worked great
