Two major roads were blocked yesterday as workers of three garment factories across Cambodia continued strikes sparked by the dismissal of union representatives.

In Phnom Penh’s Por Sen Chey district, about 2,000 employees – who went on strike after management fired five Collective Union of Movement of Workers (CUMW) officials last week – blocked National Road 4 at 1pm after a failed sit-down, CUMW vice president Om Leap said.

Por Sen Chey district’s Kantouk commune Police Chief Orn Teng “we are meeting to find a resolution for them and we do not have plans to crack down on them,” Teng said.

However, strikers at Ginwin Industry (Cambodia) were pushed by police and military police yesterday when 300 of them blocked the road in front of the Kandal province factory, CUMW officer Suth Chet said.

About 100 workers at Kampong Cham province’s Manhattan factory also held a protest yesterday following the termination of 10 Cambodian Trade Union Alliance members.
