Just planning a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa trip to Malaysia.

From what I have read on this forum, it appears that Penang is easiest, and the little hiccup in multiple entry requests has now gone back to normal. I'd appreciate any help you can give on these questions:-

1) Penang or KL?

2) No of entries available 6 months or 1 year?

2) like some others here, I do not like to use "agents" to get visas (especially considering the recent clampdowns and perennial fake stamps), and although I am sure some of probably have "arrangements" with the officials to grease the process wheels a bit, I'd like to avoid them if possible. I am looking for pre-packaged trips for this purpose, and need some contact info for trips from Bangkok.

Thanks.

I do not know of any packaged trips but it is not very hard to book a flight to arrive on a workday morning to allow time to visit Consulate before noon and to leave late the next workday afternoon after you pick up the visa. You can pre book hotel or just obtain after arrival (about the only time hotels are in short supply is end of Ramadan (in Penang)).

A two or three entry tourist visa will be valid for six months.

Thanks, I am just about to do it myself. Still not chosen my hotel yet. From my research so far, the Waterfall or Berjava Georgetown look closest, but anyone have any other suggestions?

Since it's only for the one night Bt.1000-2000/night is acceptable, just want to reduce the travel times to/from the Embassy (since I'll be doing it in person), and stay in reasonable comfort.

I'm doing this run myself from Phuket on Sunday. It's up to you of course, but I find it easier to user an agent to get the visa. A good one can be found on the corner of the Swiss Hotel (not recommended) in Chulia St Georgetown. It costs less to pay the agent than the taxi fare to and from the consulate - and again the next day to collect the visa. He also guarantee's to get exactly what you want...that doesn't always happen if you show up in person at the consulate - as other will testify

The Oriental Hotel around the corner at the top of Chulia St has rooms for the equivalent of 700 Baht. It's clean and comfortable, fine for a couple of nights. The aircon' is bit wicked though

Good luck

I looked into the Waterfall and Berjaya Georgetown and whilst the Waterfall looks closer, the Berjaya looks nicer as well as cheaper and easier to book online. Got a "Superior" room at the Berjaya via AirAsia for RM125. Other online prices for that room seemed about RM180 but didn't have time to shop around.

yeah yeah yeah, I stayed at the Berjaya once. Rest assured I won't be returning. The place is dirty. anyway, you're only there 1 night so who cares

There are plenty of 'Agents' in Penang and if you get one recommended by others, I can't see any reason not to use them.

A hotel I like is the Continental, next to Malaysia Hotel - 80RM for the cheapest room, but you are better off in the slightly more expensive ones though.

They got a swimming pool on the 4:th floor - which makes my daughter happy. :o

A nice trip to do from Bangkok, if you are not in a rush, is to take the train Bangkok-Butterworth.

Second class sleeping coach, lower berth, with aircon is 1110 Baht o/w.

Train got a restaurant wih quiet decent food plus beer and thai whisky etc.

I love the train and always meet nice and interesting people on it.

Also, almost forgot it... If you use an agent and pay 30 RM extra you get your passport at 12.00 the next day, which gives you plenty of time to take a taxi down to the ferry that brings you over to Butterworth, so you can catch the train at 2.20.

Whatever you decide to do - Have a nice trip and Good Luck !!!

Going by bus from Phuket town to Hat Yai - 371 Baht, then mini bus to Georgetown - 250 Baht. Takes about 10-11 hours to get there.
