I want to change jobs; Work Permit Attached to US Non-O Visa

Featured Replies

I have a one year contract that ends August 31, 2015. I came to Thailand in August 2013 on a US Non-Immigrant O Visa volunteer teaching and training with an education Foundation in Chiang Rai Province. I got a full-time teaching job that started in September. I got a work permit and they extended my Non-O Visa. Another school wants me. I think it would be a good match. The folks where I'm at say if I quit, my work permit and visa would expire the same day and they want my decision right away. They say I would have to leave the country, but could go to immigration to get a 7-day extension to arrange my departure if I decide to leave the job. What would be involved in moving to the new school? What would I have to do? Is it possible for me to stay in Thailand if I quit this job? I want to make up my mind soon about what to do. Thanks for your help!

It is possible go from one job to another but you would need a work permit application approval letter from the labor ministry that your new school would have to apply for.

If you can delay your departure from your current school it would be possible.

What you would do is apply for an new extension on the same day your current job ends using a letter from them stating you job has ended so that you current extension can be canceled. You would need supporting documents from the new school and the approval letter.
