Tax liability with a marriage visa

Featured Replies

I've been married to a Thai lady for almost 4 years and we think it's time I get an extension of stay for marriage. I work offshore and leave Thailand several times during the year and my income is from outside Thailand, will I be required to pay income tax in Thailand? Presently I am tax exempt from my home country? Also, any issues leaving the country so often? I thank you for any information that can be passed on to me.

You are only liable for taxes if you are in Thailand for 180 days in a calender year and then only for money brought into the country. The revenue department does not have a history of chasing after people for taxes unless they are working or have a business here.

Once you get the extension you can get a multiple re-entry permit. There is no problem leaving and entering the country if you have an extension.

The only time you have to be here is to apply for the extension and get the one year extension stamp after the 30 day under consideration period.

No, if you show income and it is from abroad you simply show a letter from your embassy confirming your income to immigration.
