2,000 extra buses provided daily for people returning to Bangkok from holidays

BANGKOK, 2 January 2015 (NNT) - Mr. Wutthichart Kalayanamitr, President of the state-run Transport Company, says the company is putting around 2,000 extra buses a day to facilitate holiday makers who start returning to Bangkok.

He said those who have not pre-booked a bus seat for their return can buy the tickets at bus terminals but are advised to arrive at the terminal early in the day to avoid congestions. Those who need more information can either call 1490 Transport Hotline or contact the nearest Provincial Transport Office.

Mr. Wutthichart also emphasized the company is pursuing strict security measures to ensure passengers will reach their destinations safely. The measures include putting two drivers in each bus who will take turn steering the wheel every four hours. All drivers will also be given a readiness test at checking points along main roads.

Mr. Wutthichart admitted however that one problem which the company was unable to control was the duration for each bus trip due to the great number of vehicles on roads, causing severe traffic congestion.

Railway Police strengthens security measures to keep crimes at the minimum

BANGKOK, 2 January 2015 (NNT) – The Railway Police Division has stepped up security measures to suppress crimes that usually rise on trains due to the great number of passengers during the New Year's holidays.

Commander of the Railway Police Division Pol Maj-Gen Jirasan Kaewsaeng-ek said that train police are closely monitoring the situation in all trains especially long-haul ones heading to the North and the South of Thailand. Drugs and smuggled goods are the main targets of inspection. He explained that smugglers often exploited the overcrowding situation on trains during the New Year’s holidays to transport illegal drugs and smuggled goods.

He said additional policemen have been deployed to implement the crime-on-train suppression and they will patrol bogies regularly. The measures are also believed to help ensure the safety and peace of mind of passengers.

However, Pol Maj-Gen Jirasan reiterated the need for public cooperation in the crime suppression. He requested all passengers not to bring valuable belongings on board and to avoid any clamorous actions which may cause brawls and accidents.
