Chief of Phang-Nga Marine Office, representatives from a private firm, Naracha, and local villagers of Koh Yao, met at the provincial hall and discussed about a marina project to be constructed at Koh Yao Yai. The meeting followed villagers complaints to the local authority asking to clarify and explain to the villagers about the project as they are concerned that the new facility will affect their present careers. The company plans to build a marina with a residential facility on a 500 rai plot primarily for foreigners. The project is now under plan design, surveys on environmental impact and not yet seeking construction permission. The Chief of Marine Office Somkid Yimpraphan explained that the firm has sought permission to build a small pier and earth bank to protect against waves as well as to put buoys at 30 metres from the shore for locals to tie their boats with. He insisted that the area is public and accessible. He reaffirmed that public views and participation will be sought before the project implementation

Although this message is over 1 month old, I'm surprised there's NO reaction at all.

If this was on Phuket or Samui it would have drawn a lot more attention.

500 RAI is a HUGE PROJECT-TO-BE and I am curious how the plans are developing :o

Any news about this mini-Phuket ?

Are 'they' destroying another beautiful island?
