I was looking at the CV of a Thai man and it says he has an honourary doctorate from the American League of Colleges and Universities. A quick google reveals no such organization. Has anyone heard of ALOCU or is it a diploma mill or just a plain deception?

The two leading lists of accreditation organizations and institutions of higher learning do not list this agency. Without listing in one of these two databases it will not be recognized as legitimate and seems this is a none existent school or accreditation organization. However, it is not listed in Wikipedia's list of fake/mills.

An 'honorary doctorate' means that he doesn't have one. Someone who is awarded an honorary title is made that award in lieu of a lifetime's professional activity which would be considered of sufficiently high equivalent standard to merit such an award, so unless there is something in his CV that merits that, then his CV stinks. Mind you it already stinks because PhDs are awarded by individual universities not associations, so again what we have here is a real smelly one. Has he provided a US academic reference? What about his first degree, what/where's that from?

Thanks for the feedback from everyone.

FYI, his other degrees:

BS in Agriculture from Gregorio Araneta University Foundation, Philippines

MBA (Politics) from Araneta University Extension, Philippines

I'm going to try contacting the above to see if they have any records.

Well, you can contact them but a simple search will show that the place isn't up to much.

As for an MBA in politics, it might as well be an MBA in BS.
