I voted ฿1500. I never like to have too much cash, frankly I cant trust myself with it. I prefer to use my Thai credit card which I can control and it's easier to limit what I spend.

In addition, the wife seems to possess uncanny 'money radar' for anything contained in my wallet

400bht in the morning, dropping to 100bht in the evening.

ATMs everywhere, why would you need to carry more?

Today I spent 12bht on a bottle of Pepsi, 90bht on 2l of milk, 20bht on a bar of chocolate, 25bht on a bunch of bananas, 30bht on graprow gai for dinner.

A fairly normal days casual spending for me.

Anything more than 5k in your pocket, if you are going out, is dangerous, There is a possibility you could end up dancing on the table , drinking Pina Coladas throwing 1000bt notes at The Ladies

Agree ExPratt that more than 5,000 baht carried around is dangerous.

I have often wondered at the logic of immigration for people coming here (a lot for the first time) that, dependent on visa, they have to show themselves carrying so much readies, 10,000 a head, 20,000 a family.

Its like an invitation for them to get into trouble. Still, that said, I've never heard of anyone getting rolled and blaming the current rules for it.

IMHO, its gonna happen one day...................wink.png

In the day time I don't go far from the condo. Coffee shop next door, 7/11 or Lotus is about the extent of it so I'd have just whatever was in there. Anywhere between a few hundred baht to 2K + I always have 2K stashed away in a "hidden" part of the wallet for "emergencies" (i.e. running out of money when drinking and I've not got my bank card on me mostly though sometimes I do find I get to a checkout or have ordered some food and have no cash in the main part of my wallet)

If I'm going out at night for dinner, drinks, socialising etc then I'll take about 2,000 + the 2,000 backup and my bank card.
