Junta Chairman To Step Up PR Efforts
By Khaosod English

BANGKOK — Junta chairman and Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha is planning to launch a new PR blitz informing the public of what he has achieved since seizing power from an elected government last May, his spokesperson said.

Gen. Prayuth believes his PR teams have failed to adequately inform the public about what he and the junta, formally known as the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), have accomplished, said Maj.Gen. Sansern Kaewkumnerd.

"In recent months, the performance of the government, NCPO, and Ministries’ spokespersons have not satisfied the Prime Minister," said Maj.Gen. Sansern. "Their work has not been impressive. So the Prime Minister has ordered us to step up our efforts and create better understanding among the public."

Gen. Prayuth led the military coup against the government of Yingluck Shinawatra on 22 May 2014 amid ongoing anti-government protests in Bangkok. The former army chief was later appointed Prime minister by an interim parliament whose members he handpicked.

The junta chairman says the military takeover was needed to resolve the country’s political conflicts and bring about a series of national "reforms" before the next election can take place.

Since last May, he has used various state media channels to inform the public about the junta’s projects, including a weekly televised program every Friday in which he addresses the nation directly. State channels also broadcast a daily 15-minute segment called "Thailand Moves Forward," which extols the military government's efforts to reform Thailand's economic, social, and political sectors.

However, such PR efforts have been deemed inadequate, Maj.Gen. Sansern said.

Is this to herald the establishment of an official Ministry of Propaganda. ?

PS. Dear PM I am less than happy at 1800 each night when watching some movie channels etc my viewing is interrupted by a propaganda programme and when it stops all that time has been lost as the movie hasn't been paused.

"Their work has not been impressive. So the Prime Minister has ordered us to step up our efforts and create better understanding among the public." blink.png

They already understand your efforts are not impressive.

"Each Ministry has to explain [about the junta's work],even if it means joining forums or shows that also feature members with opposing views,

so that they can explain and create correct understanding," the spokesperson explained.”

Good luck “correcting” those with opposing views. wai2.gif wai.gif

"It's like turning crises into opportunities."

Boy, if that ain't Media spin...

"We may adjust the content to fit the desire of the public," Maj.Gen. Sansern said.”

Took you long enough. Should have taken note of that two months ago;

“In November 2014, Gen. Prayuth complained to the press that the public was not paying enough attention to his show.”

"Are you all bored of it now? Do you want me to dance in front of the camera next time?" Gen. Prayuth asked.”

General, can we please have a version of your campaign in English?

Too many farangs on TVF, have NO idea of the good deeds you have done for Thailand and they need to open their eyes and ears sometime in their life.

Don't forget to include your generous ' gifts ' to the nation starting with the fuel price cut at the new year. Fall in world oil prices, what fall in world prices. ?

Then there's the normal infrastructure projects that conveniently were retitled as gifts.

We thank you too for the tasteful cardboard cut outs in case we forget who you are.

Now then brass tacks, when will you really tackle corruption or is ' married into money ' to remain the official line ?

I have to tip my hat to your ability to be an amazing, unabashed cheerleader. That's being honest. Bravo.

As for the English part, well, his weekly addresses are translated so we Farangs with no idea can listen to him extoll his great deeds. I watch these in spite of the fact that they make me vomit. wink.png

Please continue the work you are doing. But please stop telling us the work you are doing.

No normal PM goes on T.V. every week to tell their fellow countrymen and women what work they are doing.

All you are doing is opening yourself up for ridicule. Also you look like you are in need of a shit 24/7. You really don't have a face for T.V.

Yingluck did, Samak did, can't remember for Abhisit.....

It's a clear sign that many people can tell the difference between genuine results and propaganda.........so now he'll step up the propaganda machine to force his great achievements down peoples throats!

And as we all know.....keep telling people the same BS, and soon they'll believe it!

A person who possesses such wisdom as to know the many, the ideas they lack and the degree of their eyesight, is indeed a wonder to this simple reader.

The first sentence has merit. The second, not so much.

Costas2008. Some may need to open their eyes and ears sometimes but I would be really nice if you would close your mouth often. I am sure him or his puppets are sitting around reading your constant begging and saying to themselves what a great idea he has. Funny how every Friday evening when he gives his weekly babble about nothing I can understand what he is saying due to the simple fact that it's subtitled in English. And I insist that you DO explain to those farangs that have no idea, just what good deeds has he done for Thailand? Maybe you should ask the same question to North Korea.

Let's hope PM Prayuth will, at last, have a top-class communication specialists' team in place first, as his, his team, and officials' communication has systematically been of abysmally low quality, making a laughing stock of themselves in the best cases, but mostly even counter-productive, and for sure irritating the population! Unbelievable! A good communication will be your best PR, Mr PM, but you will need to accept yourself and impose to all coming any close to a microphone to PUT A SOCK IN IT (your mouths): not any kind of communiqué, press release or inteview without the OK of the communication team!

P.S.: It will probably be impossible though, as there would need to be quite some Farangs in such a pros' team, and for them to become the authority to tell a Thai General or Permanent Secretary to shut up his trap, I just don't see it happening... When so, then so, let the ridiculous circus go on... Hope nobody had come up with the idea to follow up the audience of the 'Prayuth shows', quite sure he'd lose his job when the results would come out, dropping as a stone, whatever 'the Ministry of Good News' might say...

Perhaps employ Thaksin's PR spin doctors.

Despite everything still gets as much positive publicity as the Junta,

And he didn't need to shove his face onto every TV channel during peak viewing hours to spout his opinions/orders either. Mr T was dodgy as they come, but give me a corrupt, populist democratically elected PM over this any day of the week.

Perhaps you need to read the subtitles (look at the pic above). I suggest you get some mansize tissues and handcream first from your local convenience store.
