Xiaomi : Faster, higher, stronger

Featured Replies

I'm not associated to Xiaomi in anyway but I'm a strong admirer of their developement.

Not long ago I was talking with a friend about the dynamism on display at the Las Vegas CES (Consumer Electronic Show). Unfortunately we were also agreing that while western companies are very innovative most of them won't survive very long as they are ill equipped to fight with the Chinese business model.

Here are two new products recently announced by one of my current favorite : Xiaomi

Chromecast vs Xiaomi Mi Box Mini: Two Streamers, Two Insanely Low Price Tags

Digital streamers are BIG business these days, and today we're taking a look at two of the best: Chromecast and Xiaomi's Mi Box Mini

One of the fastest growing consumer electronicsicon1.png markets outside the smartphone is the digital media player. These are boxes like the Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, and Nexus Player which allow users to stream content from the Internet or smartphones directly to their TVs.

Wanted the Xiaomi Note 4G (RedMi or HongMi) 5.5" smart phone but only available in India, Malaysia, and Hong Kong at baht 8400. Now Xiaomi has representation in Thailand but they've changed the original specs. Same price for lower specs and a much higher price for the RedMi specs with one more GB ram which I don't think it needed, reading customer feedback. Now, not so much the bargain.

I ordered one as part of their initial kickstarter funding. I think it was supposed to ship in December. I haven't seen it yet though.

That's the idea, thanks :-)

I don't want to comment on this particular project as I don't know the team behind it but I know that a number of similar projects ran into a lot of trouble when they entered the production phase. To have nice concept is one thing. To make a first working prototype is already an achievement. But when you enter in the production phase, that's when the Chinese have a definitive advantage. I know it I worked in China for 20 years ;-)
