Jonathan Fairfield Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 No more Page 3? Report says UK's Sun drops topless models LONDON (AP) — Has the sun set on the topless models of Britain's tabloid press? For 45 years, the Rupert Murdoch-owned tabloid The Sun has featured topless models called Page 3 girls — photos that have long drawn protests from feminists. On Monday, it showed model Rosie Huntington-Whitely wearing a bra. The Guardian newspaper reported The Sun management had made a "landmark decision" to drop the bare breasts. The Sun's Irish edition stopped using topless models in 2013. Last year Murdoch said he found Page 3 "old-fashioned, but readers seem to disagree." It was not clear whether the cover-up was permanent. Spokesman Dylan Sharpe tweeted that Page 3 would remain "in the same place it's always been — between page 2 and page 4." He did not immediately return a call seeking comment. -- (c) Associated Press 2014-01-20
Crossy Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 NNOOOO!!!!!! I was brought up on a diet of Page 3 beauties and Hagar the Horrible, add the TV schedule and you get the only four reasons for buying The Sun 2 "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
daveAustin Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Bit sad in this day & age, though, innit. Plenty of titties on the net to get your fix.
catterwell Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Glad to learn that Page 3 would remain where it's always been, ie between page 2 and page 4; but disturbed at the lack of assurance that pp 2 & 4 will not be moved.
Chicog Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Thankfully The Sport more than makes up for it.
ggold Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Glad to learn that Page 3 would remain where it's always been, ie between page 2 and page 4; but disturbed at the lack of assurance that pp 2 & 4 will not be moved. I see the other pages don't get a mention.
H1w4yR1da Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I'm not saying Islam is taking over but I was quite surprised by yesterday's page 3.
uptheos Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I'm not saying Islam is taking over but I was quite surprised by yesterday's page 3. Dropping the Page 3 topless girls in The Sun is an outrage!! 1
lee b Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 End of an Era... Sadly Very sadly like most things in this day and age in the UK
ggt Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Why do the feminists get their panties in a wad over exposed breasts?...maybe if we saw the feminist's breasts...we would understand... 1
Ulic Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 The age of political correctness and the end of an era. From burn the bra and right to go topless to cover up what nature gave you. Next will be this .......... Sorry to see page 3 go. What on earth will the girls do for work.
Lokie Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Sorry to see page 3 go. What on earth will the girls do for work. Lol, never mind that; what are all the schoolboys gonna do for a 5 finger shuffle? Many a good fumble over Linda Lusardi and Katey Lloyd back in the day
robertthebruce Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Life is all about choices.. Whats the big deal if someone wants to buy ''The Sun'' newspaper.. and there is a half or naked Woman in it ???? if you dont like that, dont buy it... simple as that...
Lissos Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 If anything, the comment (I think by Murdoch himself) that it was outdated, rings quite true. In an age where a schoolboy can go online and browse porn from a menu which is mind boggling, they won't ever be short on material for the five times a day five knuckle shuffle and page three is archaic at best. One of the news reports today asked if the feminists had 'won' with this decision as if their pressure had influenced decision making. I doubt it. Murdoch probably reocognised that page three was old hat, and is probably secure enough in himself about his decision to take an even 'softer' approach with page three. End of era, yes. Major loss? Not particularly, given the alternatives. 1
draftvader Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Turns out the whole thing was a spoof! Sun's Page Three 'returns' as paper takes swipe at rivals The Sun has published a picture of a topless woman on Page Three and mocked media outlets that said the long-running feature had been dropped. On Tuesday, the Sun's sister paper the Times said the tabloid would no longer feature Page Three girls - but one appears in the Sun's latest edition. The supposed ending of Page Three was widely reported, despite the Sun neither confirming or denying it. On the page, the Sun "apologises" on behalf of all those who ran the story. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30928544
ThePlant Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Fear not! The Titties were back today. I think they were having a swipe at the PC prats who were rubbing their hands in glee at their 'victory' and today there were boobies all over!!! Excellent gimpery of the lefties Mr Murdoch.....
Basil B Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I have not bought that trash for over twenty year, occasionally when there's a copy lying around in a cafe I read it while wait for my full English, but page 3 is not really titillating, seen better in the Women's Institute calender...
thaibeachlovers Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Bit sad in this day & age, though, innit. Plenty of titties on the net to get your fix. Strange, given the Brits obsession with sex. However, the Sun is a piece of trash, so who cares. As said, no problem looking at breasts on the net, if one wants to. Plenty of women out there happy to let the whole world look at their bits. 1
MAJIC Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 So it’s good bye to page 3 and the perfect body creation, anyone who thinks these model,s ever really existed and looked so perfect is not at all familiar with Photo shop,or the Joan Collins myth! It would be nice to think the days of face plaster known as makeup, and war paint would also come to an end but I doubt it. It’s all become a bit boring, even 70 year plus Murdoch is quietly nodding off. Murdoch has spent a lifetime being a lobster, and no doubt he will be back with something especially obnoxious as well!
MAJIC Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Sorry to see page 3 go. What on earth will the girls do for work. Lol, never mind that; what are all the schoolboys gonna do for a 5 finger shuffle? Many a good fumble over Linda Lusardi and Katey Lloyd back in the day Linda Lusardi I reckon she is drawing her Pension by now?
