From the Thai National News Bureau Public Relations Department: Thailand will change from a 9-digit to 10-digit mobile telephone system on September 1.

Setthaporn Khusripithak, a member of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) said the change, approved by the telecoms regulator, was in response to the rapid expansion of the use of mobile telephones.

With the 10-digit system, the country will have enough mobile telephone numbers for the next 30 years, Mr. Setthaporn said.

Beginning September 1, users of all mobile telephone systems will have to dial the prefix 08, he said.

For example: the number 01 123 4567 will change to: 08 1123 4567; the number 09 123 4567 will be: 08 9123 4567. (Tip: a new mobile number will always start with 08 followed by 2 groups of 4 digits.)

My One-2-call number already works for the new numbering.

If your old number was 07-1234567

your new number will be

087-1234567

Yes indeed. This change is underway and the old numbers will stop working by September 1.

I would presume that there would be, like George has stated, the new prefix numbers are working now along side the original, i would imagine that this will be the case for some time.

PS. What ever happened to all pre paid mobile phone having to be registerd by a certain date? That never happened.

As i understand it, the grace period is now. From September 1 the change will be definite.

Guess i might aswel start changing all the numbers in my phone now then.

I have been informed that no action is required on the part of the owner - neither the SIM card nor the handset require any modification.

The changes will be made in the network software by the service provider.

I found this at least for DTAC so go have a look to be sure........

During the grace period from September 1 - November 30, DTAC customers can rest assured that they can still use their mobile phones as usual, both for domestic and international calls. Incoming overseas calls can still be received at the old 9 digit numbers.

TOT prepares to support the change of the digit system of mobile phone

TOT Corporation Public Company Limited (TOT) is preparing the system to support the change of the digit system of mobile phone numbers from 9 digits to 10 digits,

Mr. Chamras Tantrisukont (จำรัส ตันตรีสุคนธ์), the TOT Deputy Managing Director, said that the new system will start on September 1st, but mobile phone users can still use the 9-digit number until December 1st this year.

Besides, both mobile 1900 MHz and home bill systems of TOT have been improved to support the new digit system.

My wife called DTAC to ask them about the number addition.

1) The old number will continue to work until Dec. 1, but you should make an effort to use the 8, to get used to it.

2) It is not necessary to go into the office, recieve a new Sim Card, etc. But! You can go into your mobile office, and they can take your Sim Card, and add an 8 to all the numbers in your saved numbers. If you have a lot like I do, it would definitely be a good thing to do!

I used my landline ( TT&T ) to call my mobile using the new 10 digit number and it worked!

When I tried calling my wifes mobile from my mobile and vise versa using the 10 digit number ( both 1 2 call ) I got the message there was no such number.
