BANGKOK, Jan 24 -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered government and state enterprise offices to lower flags to half-mast for three days, starting next Monday, in mourning for the passing away of Saudi King Abdullah on Thursday, according to an announcement released by the office of the Secretariat of the Prime Minister.

The announcement, dated Friday, said Gen Prayut, also leader of the National Council for Peace and Order, had ordered state agency offices throughout Thailand to lower flags to half-mast in mourning for the late king of Saudi Arabia.

Gen Prayut early Saturday also traveled to the Saudi embassy in Thailand to sign the condolence book.

King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz was hospitalised in December for pneumonia and had been breathing with aid of a respirator.

On January 2, the Royal Court announced that he was on a temporary ventilator for respiratory infection, according to a report issued by a foreign news agency. (MCOT online news)

More confidence from Malaysian and Singaporean investors: ML Panadda

BANGKOK, 24 January 2015 (NNT) - Malaysian and Singaporean investors expressed more confidence to invest in Thailand after the situation in the country improved, said Prime Minister's Office Minister ML Panadda Diskul.

A group of Malaysian and Singaporean investors from CIMB on Saturday met with the minister and representatives of the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) at Government House on Thailand's economic and social issues. Their trip was inspired by foreign investors' increasing confidence in Thailand in terms of industry, transport and tourism, said the minister.

The CIMB investors also asked for information about the BOI's investment incentives and results of the studies on the government's administration, politics, national reconciliation as well as corruption problems.

ML Panadda added that the investors said they were interested in special economic zones in Tak and Samui. The BOI representatives explained the government's investment policy to them, stressing that investment in the special economic zones must support tourism in the areas, said the minister.
