Employment Department denies letting Thai workers languish in Israel

BANGKOK, 24 January 2015 (NNT) - The Employment Department has insisted that the living condition of Thai people in Israel is among its major concerns, denying a claim by an international agency that Thai workers are being maltreated by Israeli employers.

Citing his recent visit paid to Thai workers in Israel, Employment Department Director-General Sumet Mahosot confirmed that most of 26,000 Thai workers there had no difficulty living in the foreign environment except for the extremely hot weather. Mr. Sumet said those having a problem with their working condition might represent less than one percent.

His statement came in reaction to a survey by Human Rights Watch which indicated that Thai people working in the agricultural sector were not only being forced to toil in a danger-prone environment but were also paid much lower wages than the standard rate.

Mr. Sumet affirmed that the well-being of Thai workers overseas was one of the Employment Department’s priorities, adding that the processing fee for job seekers wishing to go to Israel had become much lower after the Israeli government revised the Thai employee recruitment system.

According to the Employment Department, Thai workers had to pay a processing fee of as much as 300,000 baht per person to their agents. Since the International Organization for Migration (IOM) was assigned to act as the coordinator in 2011, the fee has dropped to 70,000 baht.

Life is cheap , if your poor your life is worthless to those in power.

UNHRC, and Routers reported that in more than 27 firms Thai migrant workers are being treated like skaves in isreal and are constantly subject to physical and mental abuse.

If this is true Thai government should simply stop Thsi's to go for work in isreal.

Wonder what is going to be the next nation juiced out of sweat & blood & tears if Thai workers leave?
