Defibrillators in public places for heart attack victims in Thailand

whistling.gif I've taken multiple emergency first aid courses, as I used to work around high power communications equipment and that training was part of our job requirement.

They would be useful only if they had the software to monitor the supposed victims heartbeat (if any) and NOT allow a shock to be given if the heartbeat was considered to be normal and not needing a shock.

That is because applying a shock to a heart that is working normally and does not need a shock is a very bad idea.

(I.E. a shock given at the wrong time to a normal heart can possibly cause that heart to go into a problem.)

The latest fully automated devices have such software that stops well meaning but mistaken volunteers from giving a possibly harmful shock to an otherwise normal heart.

But they are expensive.

.

to install automated external defibrillators at public places frequented by high-risk individuals.

Like where? Hospitals?

Or Villa Market, when the heart atackee reads the prices?

Or at the 7/11 at tourist areas...When overweight Dieter with 3 Viagra in his stomach can't buy beer because it is out of time....

How about telling people how to eat properly?

Doesn't help when after a lifetime of gluttony the fat bastards come retire here rolleyes.gif

It does

According to renown heart surgeon Dr Essenlstyn (45 years of practice as a surgeon and researcher) it only takes TWO WEEKS of proper diet to prevent heart attack

indeed, if you have to wait 30+ minutes for an ambulance (body snatcher) you might as well drop dead directly

but ask the average person about CPR .... what is that ? oh, kiss on mouth ...

very usefull, education, that is

From a different perspective how many of TV finest have ever done a CPR course or a basic first aid course, my guess not many

So before the all knowing farangs on here start gobbing off about the Thai's they need to take a look at themselves

NIEM will be able to install these devices at state offices and public places in Bangkok and other provinces.

How many western tourist experience a heart attack in state offices? I spent months in a hospital in SISAKET and the nurses poked me 39 times in all parts of my hand and arm for IV treatment when I only only needed 5 points of entry.

No one speaks their language ( of the victim), and you're going to let let someone charge you up like a light bulb?

You need to be able to read instructions or be trained on the machines use. Machines have varing prices depending on their software, vocal comandes, etc,Thaind seems to favor lowest price and/or chinese copies, kickbacks, etc That should eliminate their placement for a large % of them for the general public to use or even access. Yes some police/emergency vehicles carry them in the real world. I can see 2 Thai police show up on their motorcycle, check that the individual is responsive and then ask for expected donation for them to continue on their life saving emergency. action plan.

They steal the carts for luggage from airports, motorbikes, phones, just about anything of a value over 50 baht, if its not watched, locked up or taken home by a responsible person. Guess they will propose next using the prisoners who won't be put to sea as emergency respondents and assign each pair of them, a machine and a impounded motorcycle.

This is a good Idea , make sure they are placed in a well marked area in both Thai and English language , places like bus stations, Major shopping centres, anywhere where they could be needed, lets try and ensure that they will always work and they don't end up in the Night market at Kalasin.coffee1.gif

Somehow I see a lot of passed-out farang bar patrons ending up getting a rude awakening ... or possibly a public execution ... especially by equally drunk friends who qualify as medical experts after watching too many episodes of ER.

The good thing is the AED is automatic and won't fire if not necessary. So for those drunk passed out patrons, the surprise would be some bar girl ripping open the down patron's shirt and may be the most excitement the patron will see and hoping for more.

The AED stuff is great (I'm trained in their use), but let's first have basic first aid. A man fell onto his right arm and hip yesterday. First thing the locals around him did was grab the arm he fell on and started yanking him up. Hello, ask him first. Maybe he broke something? Then, with his middle finger obviously sprianed they proced to pop all his fingers, as in Thai massage. Tears running down his face. I got ice for it - they're totally unsure of how to reduce swelling. A year ago a first grader having a 15-minute grand mal seizure, school staff gets out the tiger balm and massages her all the way through a FIFTEEN MINUTE GRAND MAL SEIZURE! My training says after 5 minutes get them to hospital ASAP. Elevating sprains is another foreign concept. Huge goose egg on the head from a good bump - apply tiger balm. The cure-all. I love tiger balm - good stuff - but sometimes you need something else. O.K., my rant is over . . .
