Casino, enlighten me on the Russian prostitute thing.

BBC sport.... Chelsea rebounded from their worst start to a league season in 10 years by grinding out a victory over Fulham. Following successive defeats by Everton and Basel, manager Jose Mourinho said he wanted to improve Chelsea's style of play but there was little sign of a dramatic change in an unconvincing performance from the hosts.

Sometimes it doesn't matter how much money a Russian thief pumps into a football team.......

In Russia, however, life at the top is not all that it's cracked up to be. Berezovsky and Gusinsky are now in exile, facing prosecution if they ever return to Russia, while Abramovich, having cashed in much of his Russian oil and metals empire and bought a British soccer team, is a frequent guest of Berezovsky in London. As for Khodorkovsky, he's in jail. Russian authorities arrested Khodorkovsky at gunpoint October 25 on a snowy Siberian runway. He is being held on charges ranging from tax evasion to fraud. The charges concern post-communist privatization deals for the companies that went on to become Yukos, the oil behemoth that Khodorkovsky founded and recently merged with Sibneft, another firm that he bought from Abramovich. If a court so decides, both companies could end up back in state hands. The crackdown caused a sharp drop in Russia's stock market this week and has prompted warnings that foreign investors might back away. It's not only the economy that took a hit, though. Russian antisemites are in trouble, too. Their favorite bogeymen, the Jewish "oligarchs," as the country's tycoons are called, are becoming an endangered species. In the eyes of most Russians, the oligarchs are clearly guilty, of theft and corruption in the best case, and probably a lot worse. That much of their wealth is ill-gotten, no one really doubts. And what is to be done? Most Russians would answer: Lock 'em up, ship 'em out. There's plenty of room in Siberia.

Berezovsky's dead Nick! About six months ago, however, in dubious circumstances of course.

Incidentally, i think russian owned clubs have a new innovative policy in transfer windows; buy any players their opposition want to buy, be they needed, surplus or whatever. More good news for football this!biggrin.png

To be fair, looking at your team, even without your best player, i just can't see any way you could end up not being top or in the top four. Its all relative isn't it. Whilst the likes of Arsenal and Spurs are fighting for a top four if Chelsea only finished fourth shouldn't Mourinho be sacked for under achieving with the squad he has at his disposal? Well, certainly if there was no other silverware won

Posted

Obviously pressure is on Mourinho because at the least he has to finish fourth. Even if we do, I think he should be judged on points not necessarily the position. 5 points from winning the league in fourth place is a better result than third, but 15 points off the top, in relation to how the season went.

In Mourinhos post match interview he was saying that the EPL is tighter this time around and by looking at the results and table I would have to agree. None of the top teams are playing well enough that they should be considered huge favourites, only the teams on paper or from previous experiences are favourites. On form there are City, Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and even Everton that are up for the title. Some playing better than expected, others worse.

I agree with you on both points, about the league being tighter and about the number of points achieved....but then again, i'm not your owner and i'm not being paid about 8m quid a year for silverware.

btw, Everton up for the title?!!

Everton probably not, but top 4 definitely in with a shout. They are traditionally a bogie team for us, but they are more than capable of beating all the other 4 teams, so they may have a say on where the title goes this year.

All I'm thinking about is three points today and no injuries please with an eye on next weekend's game.

Talk of the title for anyone is ridiculous right now.

Everton lack the depth....as do Liverpool. Its between five clubs for the four spots as usual.

Not so ridiculous Smokes.... Erikson is quoted as saying he joined Tottenham to win the title, and I wouldn't mind betting many of the lads in the dressing room feel quietly optimistic. I personally think it will be between us and Utd, this is based purely on what I have seen so far + who is the most settled out of the new managers.... And I would say Moyes is way ahead of both the Special one and the geyser from Chile. ARSEne will be battling City, Everton, Chelsea and Liverpool for third.

Today I have predicted a high scoring game given Cardiff's display in the box against city. 2-4 away win.

But my predictions are <deleted> so it means diddly squat.

1-3 away win for Utd while I am at it.

For today i'll go 1-2 Spurs and 1-1 in manchester.

I reckon Cardiff are going to give us a very tough game

Well said Jimmy

"People are trying to sanitise a situation for no reason whatsoever and if they are going to get arrested then I am going to stand up and shout it myself so I can be arrested as well.

"They are chants in support of Tottenham Hotspur - that was the case 50 years ago, so why has it suddenly become offensive now?

It's about who is saying it. As you know, a black guy can call another black guy the 'n' word, but white guys can't - or girls for that matter. Plus times change and we have the impossible task of trying to be fair to everyone.

There is a similar thing going on in American football with the Washington Redskins. Apparently the Redskin part is offensive so they are under pressure to change their name.......

Start an anti racist thread for genral discussion. Boring to any football fan....let the prawn munchers debate the pointless.

COYS....a hatful today please!

Problem is its being media fueled by likes of David Baddiel. He's a jumped up <deleted>, full of his of perceived self importance that should button it and stick to laughing at his own crummy jokes.

Anyone with half a brain knows theres no disrespect meant, its a chant thats been used for years and suddenly in this PC paranoid world a tiny minority are trying to make something of it.

"Were Tottenham Hotspur and we'll sing what we want" is a good new song i like

Personally if it was up to me, I'd make it law to have a national 'n' word day and yid day, etc. Were everyone would call each other this word and after a few years they would lose all their offensive power. :-)

I have already posted on decline thread Smokie, and said it was a Bad day at the office "FOR SURE" City did play very well and we had no idea's on how to handle them. City will be a hard team to beat for any team on that form.

But before you start "Gloating" TOO MUCH, we have already said Stability, Stability, Stability and when the "ability" is put back in we will have the Stability again biggrin.png

Personally... I am crestfallen that you stole Willian at the last moment, at £30 million, and we've had to settle for a 21 year old maestro called Eriksen, at a massive £11 million.... I watched all the supposed top 6 this weekend, and I can assure you I am never biased, in fact quite the opposite, and the Spurs performance, with City, were the most pleasing on the eye. Never count your chickens in football, specially if you're a Spurs supporter, but i'm happy with what I've seen so far, AVB certainly doesn't put out a defensive minded team.... thankfully.

There's only one thing more pleasing than a Spurs victory, and that's seeing a Man Ure fan, on a Spurs thread, suddenly having to quote the past..... because his team were so dire yesterday, and have been every performance so far this season... Di Canio the first casualty... Moyes the second? Yes, it's a long long season.....
