Boater
It's worth preparing for the worst of you are travelling to Bangkok as the Thai capital has the highest number of cases where the British Consulate has stepped in to help out Britons in trouble. In research released by the Foreign Office for 2014, Bangkok emerged as the destination where most Britons found themselves in trouble on holiday, with the need for medical advice and attention the biggest reason. Paris and Malaga followed Bangkok in the list, but both had almost a quarter of cases compared to that of the the Far Eastern city, where there were around 8,000 cases of Britons requiring overseas help. It is all relative to the population, and cheap beer of course!

cornishcarlos
I wonder what is says more about: Bangkok or the Brits? Probably says the same as if the Australian consulate released figures, or the US consulate or any other consulate... Unless you want to believe that Brits are more likely to get into trouble than other nationalities.

Unless you want to believe that Brits are more likely to get into trouble than other nationalities. Nope, it's just that foreigners of most major nationalities are more likely to get in trouble in Thailand than elsewhere. The same can probably be said for Chinese and Japanese needing help overseas - the largest number of cases for them would also be in Thailand. Popular Post The manic
Over 350 British people die a violent death in Thailand every year. One Australian dies a violent death every four days in Thailand. Thailand beneath the veneer is a third world country with frustrated, oppressed, violent people. Only last week at The Airport, airside, one Thai official was witnessed screaming abuse at an old farang man with passing Japanese tourists calling the Thai official ' A Gangster' because his abusive behaviour was so extreme. Beneath the surface of placidity there lies in most Thais a dreadful violence. Under current martial law it is getting worse daily with more foreigners taking the brunt of the anger, hate and frustration. The place needs a health warning: not about HIV Aids but about the Thais themselves who are a damaged and dangerous people lacking moral guidance and moral leadership. Society is like a fish: it rots from the head down.
roamer
Anyone who has watched the current BBC series Bangkok Airport won't be surprised, I even felt like doing violence to some of the muppets who appeared on it, not surprised if so many of them end up in trouble, should never have left home.
