Lite Beer
Martial law to be strictly enforced BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha stated today that martial law which has been eased for the past several months will now be strictly enforced in view of the overall political climate in the country. In addition, he stated that individuals who have made public dissenting comments will be asked to report themselves.Gen Prayut stated the reasons for calling in Surapong Tovichak-chaikun, the former Foreign Minister along with other leading figures from the Phue Thai Party for attitude adjustment during an interview held today. The prime minister said he was forced to do so because of recent public dissenting comments which are inappropriate in light of the volatile political climate. At the same time, he said the former minister for the Ministry of Energy, Pichai Niropthaphan, will also be asked to report himself for similar reasons.Gen Prayut was furious, however, when asked to comment on report of an attempt to hold campaign to encourage the public to wear red shirts every Sunday. He rebuked the question by angrily asking if such a proposal was considered appropriate.Meanwhile Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan who is also the minister for the Ministry of Defense, also clarified the reason for calling in the aforementioned individuals for attitude adjustment. He explained that they will be talked to and made to understand the government’s stand. He asked that the people allow the government and the National Council for Peace and Order time to do its job in accordance with the roadmap that has been laid out. Popular Post Anthony5
I'm sure the Western allies will understand before the week comes to an end, and in addition will 98.6% of the Thai population support that general happiness once again blew a fuse.

Well now, that should work rather well and be extremely effective, I would think. Edited January 29, 2015 by DeepInTheForest

That might be a long line at the attitude adjustment clinic. It's always good to 'make people understand'. Isn't it?

Some things aren't worth getting upset about. Ya know? Having said that, though, can't wait to hear how we will address the issue of what color to wear on Sunday. Popular Post Squeegee
Given their paranoia and fear of social media, as well as an alleged bias against foreigners, plus the fact those upstairs have clearly reacted to comments on the Internet by foreigners recently, some people here might want to be careful what they say... and over all would it be much of a surprise if one of 'them' noticed a lot of anti-government sentiment on TVF? Don't get complaisant gentlemen, anything could happen right now or you're being naive.

I applaud your optimism, but 19 coups later we still seem to be in a 'back to the future' loop. In point of fact, what military coup has ever improved things? Egypt, Haiti, Nigeria, Pakistan, Syria...and dare I mention it Greece?

OK, so I'm curious. What does differentiate this coup (we'll forget the previous 18) from the one you did experience in Greece? I'm assuming that you are old enough to have lived through the rule of the Generals. Their raison d'etre to seize power was to 'save the nation' since it was on the brink of civil war as the feuding corrupt political factions duked it out. Sound's familiar so far. Detention of political opponents of the junta, suppression of free speech, and at the end of it all, not a lot to show for it. And, even though I said lets forget the previous 18, thats kinda the pattern here too. Unfortunately and as inconvenient as it may well be, history has a habit of confounding us with it's perpetual propensity to repeat itself.

Popular Post NeverSure
JT, I can only speak for myself here as to why feel the need to take sides. I live in this country, got married in this country, build my house in this country and I'm happy and content living here. Now, for the past 8 years being here I witnessed, unrest, killings social disorder. About 6 months ago a coup took place and everything changed. No more killings no more fighting. That is the reason that I'm taking sides and feel more secure and happy under the rule of this government, because it affects my life. You'd have to be from communist Greece to be blind to the long game here.

Given the fact that Greece was the birthplace of it, his rants are truly bizarre.

But that isn't what they want which would be "the little people" choosing the leaders, so you get a d word accountable to the elite. <deleted>' blind.

Total BS, Thailand was nowhere near a civil war. The disturbances could have been quelled and elections held without a military coup, but then Prayuth wouldn't be in charge, and he wants to be in charge for reasons that have nothing to do with democracy or corruption. The end game is but a figment of your imagination. You cannot possibly know what those in charge have in mind and neither can I. I do know that we need a lot of changes. We cannot, for instance, have the chief of police in the pockets of a billionaire in Dubai. I may be blind - but you are jumping at shadows.

Where did this come from...???..???.. Who in their right mind would wear RED shirts in Bangkok? Right now - you can wear any color shirt you want in Bangkok. Of course, this time last year - that might have gotten you shot or had someone throw a grenade at you. Things are much better now.
