Raid makes a THB100-million dent in illegal supplements racket

Well buying asthma medicine used to produce leaner meat in animals is no problem in Bangkok. The medication called 'Clenbuterol' can be bought OTC from pharmacies without trouble in lower Sukhumvit. Its illegal in most countries, its banned in sports and maybe used in a couple of countries for asthma. The half-life is considered too long. The doses used for weightloss are much higher than therapeutic dosages. It is considered a dangerous chemical. And its a stimulant, but not one that can be used recreationally.

It's illegal in Thailand as well.

Because you can buy it over the counter doesn't make it legal. You can buy porn on the footpath as well.

And how many people would read and correctly understand the warning, if there was one written on the package?

How many people you think read the inlet that comes with any medicine they buy?

So because of the action of stupid people.. the smarter ones can't use stuff. I hate this policy of banning things because some people will do bad things. Next time we can't drive cars anymore because some of us are not good drivers.

Its real tiresome that responsible people can't get stuff because they want to protect stupid people. Sorry just my opinion. Its always like this they ban everything because its easier as educating and regulating.

I'm with you on this one. I use a lot of supplements but I always research them thoroughly so I know exactly what I'm getting into. I notice some supplements are available in some countries but not others, usually nanny states that take care of the dumb people.

Well, you shouldn`t.

While many supplements do have a positive effect, it`s not magic, you can get these ingredients in inexpensive food, plants and you produce supplements yourself, naturally, by being active, running, working out, eating healthy and so on. Basically by staying healthy. If you`re unhealthy, THEN you need supplement-help.

"Overdosing" on ANYTHING will have a negative effect on you. That goes for healthy supplements as well. While vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and many other supplements may be healthy for you (if you`re lacking), too much of it is not healthy, and in some cases can have a negative effect on you, like headache, stomach issues and other minor stuff, but in some cases it can actually do worse harm than that. For instance, drinking much water, taking too much supplements like Iron, Vitamin-B, B12, C, folic acid and more or mixing these supplements causes toxicities. Since they dissolved in water, too much will be toxic to your body. For supplements that are fat-soluble, your body stores, but too much and your body will stop storing, as you destroy the tissue needed to store these supplements.

Most of these supplement-products sold has several ingredients, and when you`re using a lot of supplements, as you say, and eating food, drinks and maybe also are very active (working out?), then you`re already getting too much.

Protein powder such as Whey, has a positive effect, but you can easily get the same result from food.

... and don`t use any weight-gain- or weight-loss products, as they`re all BS and very unhealthy.

And I would not advise clenbuterol.. I tried it nasty stuff indeed. That is one of the few compounds I won't be using again ever. Not because of huge health risks but because of crying like a baby in my bed in the mornings when I stretch myself and an other crap shoots into my calf muscle. (the stuff among other things promotes cramps.. so you can't even do good cardio sessions with it)

It does what it promises. And yes it promotes cramps. Many years ago I was a stupid guy in my late teens that tried cuttin with a ECA stack taken at the same time as Clenbuterol. Instead of switching every two week.

I think im lucky im not dead.

The fat in the pores of my face were literally melting.

I lost 10kg in less than three weeks with 40-60min cardio a day. I only used the stepping machine but I still had a scary heartbeat.

Psychologically? I was a bit tougher back then but I cant say I was feeling good.

Actually I can't say that it did the same for me.. It helped a bit but not that much. And I know about ECA too, but by now I know that different people respond differently to certain supplements. Whatever I take it never really works as great as for others.

However did you do the 40-60m cardio before too or did you add it ? Thing is most of these supplements do something but they also help motivate people to clean the rest of their act up too.

Helps motivate but mostly it works by itself. Clenbuterol raises your body temperature (energy output).

In my experience it doesnt have a positive impact on athletic perfomance.

You`re welcome.

It`s worth noticing that most of us are not very healthy, and taking some supplements may actually be a good thing (eating food with the right supplements is even better, easier to control and it`s almost always cheaper in the long run), but it`s actually worth using a couple of thousand baht on mapping your body first. By that I mean go to a professional doctor, run some blood tests and he will tell you what you`re lacking and perhaps have too much of. Learn how effective each supplement is to your body and after that you can either buy the correct supplements and get the correct amount, or buy the food you need to raise or lower those levels. Don`t forget about keeping the already perfect levels of chemicals in your body perfect. By doing that it is better to fix the not so perfect leveled chemicals slowly, while you also take care of the good ones as you normally should.

The biggest problem in a gym, is the fashion of using supplements (not talking about doping, but protein powders and hundreds of supplements that comes in capsule-form). It`s a fashion to take a lot. This is a mistake, and bodybuilders who have been in the game for decades and knows their bodies like biochemists and physiologists can back me up on this.

So that`s being healthy. Being an extreme bodybuilder or being obsessed with burning fat, is just as unhealthy as sitting on your sofa all day. That`s just a fact. But then most people who want to grow bigger muscles would ask themselves, how can I get such muscles at the same time as being healthy? The few who have grown quite big muscles, completely without doping and the overuse of supplements, have worked out over very long time and consumed the correct food. The bigger you get, the higher amount of supplements\food you need.

Not trying to sound like a freak here, but this is the a good guide to stay very healthy. This is where science is today. There may be additional things science discover in the future, but so far this what we got, and it works if your goal is to be optimal healthy, if you`re just being patient enough. I`m personally not THAT healthy. I overuse supplements to get bigger, faster, from time to time. I don`t really care as much as I should. But I don`t overuse a lot of supplements at once, because I have the knowledge I have. Overuse has side effects on me that often set me more down than up (more lazy, less energy, less appetite etc.). Some are more sensitive than others, but you will notice side effects sooner or later if you overuse anything. A perfect example of that is the use of steroids. Steroids are also chemicals we all have in our bodies naturally, and basically works the same physical way as any other supplement. Bitchtits, acne, high temper, small balls and even cancer are all serious consequences of your body getting extremely overdosed by natural chemicals your body cannot handle.

Using legal supplements also has its consequences, in smaller scale that is, but over long period of time, your overuse will actually become extreme overuse, and as your tissues are breaking down, and your body is getting poisoned, your organs will start to take damage, and will eventually increase the risk of organ failures later in life.

Anyway, enjoy whatever you`re doing mate, but I think what I`ve told you is worth noticing

This mapping thing is a new idea for me. I may do that some day on a trip to Bangkok. Cheers.

Eating food in such a way that you get all the vitamins and minerals in roughly the optimal amount is the best option.

Its difficult, a multivitamin+mineral pill a day can be a good way to make sure we get adequate amounts.

All bodybuilding supplements are crap except creatine and pure protein powders (no gainers!).

Proteinpowders are a quick fix to get pure and fast absorbing protein. Still, the total protein intake during a day is much more important than timing the protein intake (directly after your workout for example). For the average "bodybuilder" protein-intake timing make little difference.

Preworkouts are caffeine and/or green tea + useless ingredients with a high pricetag. Drink a cup of coffee or tea instead.

Doping works, illegal depending on country, and theres side effects. But almost everything has positive/negative side effects, for example aspirin.

@ChoakMyDee - I think you should. Everybody should. Doesn`t matter if you`re just trying to get in shape, maintain your health, bodybuilding or running marathons.

I found this list about vitamins http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin#List_of_vitamins

It may or may not be all correct but it will give you a picture on the side effects of consuming to much vitamins or getting too little (deficiency), but also tells you the food sources of each vitamin, which is good to know.

@BKKBobby - The only problem i have with multivitamins is that you`re also getting vitamins you don`t need. For instance, this is Thailand, you don`t need extra Vitamin D, as you get plenty from the sun. Who haven`t felt sleepy, or drowsy or weak after being in the sun? That`s the side-effect Vitamin D has on you when you get too much. Other vitamins you also most likely get from food you`re consuming daily, depending what you eat. And if you`re being active then your body also produces plenty of vitamins naturally. A multivitamin solution is perhaps a good starter, to get going with whatever regime you`re going for. Before workouts I usually eat a banana or two (has sugar) to get a little energy. Works.

Doping works, lots of protein (protein powders) works too. Even though protein shakes does not have any notable side effects that I`m aware of, it is great for bodybuilders and if you can cover the cost. In the west it is more expensive to eat the right food then it is drinking protein shakes. In Thailand it`s the opposite. That`s why I am recommending food before protein shakes. If you`re in to bodybuilding then you should drink protein shakes and eat lots of food. There`s really no way around it as you simply cannot consume enough food. Doping works very well, but it has it`s very unhealthy and dangerous side as well. Everything else you said I agree with.
