Hey,

Are there any ladies out there who have recently gone and got the Non o visa based on marriage? If so what was your experience and where did you go?

Ive been married 6 months and time to go get the non o. I thought it was straightforward given a few women have done so without problem but seems I am wrong. Yes I was expected to much to think this.

So first off we rang penang who told my husband what we needed an said he needed to show his bank book but no specified amount.

I then contacted an agent who told me different and said he needed 200,000b

So 2nd call and they lady in the embassy said he needed 400,000b she then started to question my husband on how we live and how he supports me. I will just say at this point he works very hard and does support me and like a lot of peoples incomes his comes in and we pay what we need to and live off the rest. We are happy.

So 3rd call and this time was myself. Spoke to a guy and he said the same as call number one and said just a copy of bank account.

So which is it 1, 2 or 3?

Another friend said Malaysia are being funny with Thailand at the moment so being strict so I was advised to go to Singapore?! HAs any one been there?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks

I will also just clarify this is to get the single entry non o based upon marriage not the marriage extension which I am led to believe you do not require financial proof.

Savannakhet or Vientienne in Laos should issue you one without any financial proof.

Savannakhet definitely will.

You wont get in Singapore.

Yes when applying for the 12 month extension you do not need any financial proof.

Your husband might have to show something though.

Based on marriage to a Thai antional you can apply at the Thai consulate in any nearby country and get a single non-O on proof of your marriage without any problems.

- marriage certificate

- copy ID-card husband

- copy husehold book husband

and maybe a short note from your husband confirming the relationship and asking for a visa for you.

No need to show financials. A woman married to a Thai naitonal does also not need to show financials for an extension of stay from immigration.

In Malaysia Penang would be the place to go. Laos is also recommended.

You can get a single entry non-o visa at any nearby embassy or consulate based upon marriage without needing financial proof. For a non-o visa it does not matter whether you are a male or female married to a Thai.

Vientiane or Savannakhet Laos would be good locations to get it.

Hi Joe, so would you not recommend Singapore for the single entry? Like I say penang keeps changing its mind on what I need. First nothing, then 200,000b and now 400,000 then back to nothing again. Had an email from Singapore and they don't mention financials at all.

All the numbers you were given were to possibly get a multiple entry visa. Penang will do a single entry with no financial proof.

I cannot recommend Singapore for getting any visa. They are inconsistent with their requirements and are known to not to be friendly at times.

Ok thank you so much, in a real spin as Singapore and penang were my nearest options as I live down south. So stressed right now its unreal.

Don't feel stressed - it will work out - it always does. Just take it a step at a time. As mentioned Penang likely was providing multi entry visa information when they tossed financials in the air - but you only need the single and then extend at immigration during the last 30 days of entry. They (immigration when extending) will have to meet husband but it is not a problem as to the amount of financials.

Thank you so much for your reassuring post, I guess I will try at penang first as its my nearest destination and the if all else fails try Lao. We just want to be sure that I a going with all the correct docs and the fingers crossed start our lives together with no worry.

No problem in Penang for single entry.

You will need your marriage certificate plus a copy, signed and dated copies of your husband's house book and ID card.

Chaeng Wattana is that Bangkok? a few people have said its possible, I am currently on non imm ed which still has about 4mths but I want to change to my non o. But I was always under the impression I had to leave the kingdom to obtain the intial 3 month non o single entry. Where are you from if you don't mind me asking and your husband is thai?

You canot not change from non-imm. 'ED' to 'O', not even in Bangkok.

Per regulations you do not need to change visa type in order to obtain an 1-year extension of stay. If your husband is confident in talking to the authorities he can bring the regulations where it says that a non-immigrant visa (which ED is) is sufficient. If they still don't allow, you can obtain a 60 days extension, that can be had on any type of entry. In no cases any financial has to be shown and not even if you go to Penang.

Hi Paz, thanks for the info but what then happens after the 60days? We have a good rappor with our local immo so I don't want to start pulling out the regs with them incase this may come across wrong and queer my pitch so to speak. I have a letter of resignation from my school which although I will still attend until my course finish I want to change my visa to the non o. So effectively when I leave the kingdom the visa will end and there for I start a brand new non o visa for which I require single entry.

It is not pulling strings or anything. Your husband would politely motivate the application based on official regulations, if they deny it ends there. There is a big difference between having and educated Thai to discuss matters as opposed to do it yourself.

if you obtain a 60 days extension you can postpone your trip, that's all.

Make the trip to Penang - you can travel cheaply and safely by train and actually it is a pleasant town (Georgetown). Your husband, I am sure, does not want to take on police and there is no need for doing so.

Thank you all so much for your advice. We both really appriciate it! I will endevour on my journey with the next 2 weeks and will keep you posted with the outcome. I will take all requested docs and then some I think, and I will copy his and my bank book should they ask with what we have in there. Fingers crossed and thans again.

Hi all, so I promised to update you. After much deliberation and advise searching I decided on Singapore given recent reports on Malaysia. I have to say it was successful for myself and fairly painless. I have my suspicions who possibly the mean lady was and she was the one who served me but she was polite enough. Sure I went prepared and dressed accordingly. Black trousers, smart top and covered shoes on both visits. I did get a tiny little post it stuck to my passport saying not enough financial and interview in question marks but I'm guessing this will be done to local immigration in three months time. :-)
