PHUKET: -- An arrest warrant has been issued for Weerapong Tubpetch from Nakorn Srithammarat, who police believe was involved in an alleged arson attack in Kathu on Friday (February 6) which left one motorcycle destroyed and a car badly damaged.

Transgender model appeals to NHRC over alleged ban from pub


BANGKOK: -- Transgender model Nijshanaaj "Sarina Thai" Sudlarphaar Monday filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) over the alleged ban on transgenders at a pub in Bangkok's Royal City Avenue (RCA) nightlife zone.


Accompanied by Thai Transgender Alliance president and Thammasat University's public health lecturer Ronnapoom Samakkeekarom, Sarina submitted the petition to NHRC chairperson Amara Pongsapich and NHRC member Dr Taejing Siripanich about the club's alleged discrimination against transgenders.

Red Cross society invites public to donate blood on the occasion of Valentine's day

BANGKOK, 9 FEBRUARY 2015, (NNT) - The Thai Red Cross Society has invited the public to donate blood on Valentine's Day as a gesture of love for others in their community.

The blood drive is being promoted with the slogan "Fulfilling our hearts with love, fulfilling our love through blood donation" from February 9th-14th.

Dr. Soisaang Pikulsod, Director of the National Blood Center, said that as February 14th is Valentine's Day, the center would like to invite everyone to come share their love through the blood donation campaign.

The center is located on Henry Dunant road, where donors will receive a 'Buddy Bear' as a souvenir for their contribution. Event participants can also enjoy fun activities provided by the center and take photos in the lovely Valentine's Day atmosphere.

Donations are also being accepted at provincial centers in Chiang Mai, Nakhonsawan, Phitsanulok, Ratchaburi, Ubon Ratchathani, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chonburi, Songkhla, Phuket and the Chalermprakiet Red Cross Health Station at Hua Hin.

Thai Army chief visits Singapore

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Defence Minister and Army chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr left for an official two-day visit to Singapore Monday.


He is scheduled to visit Singapore Deputy Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing and Singapore Army chief Perry Lim to tighten military ties between the two countries.

Finance ministry hopes to revive National Savings Fund

BANGKOK, 9 February 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Finance will propose the revived National Savings Fund project to the Cabinet meeting for consideration next week. People under Section 40 of the Social Security Fund are expected to be transferred to the National Savings Fund.


Deputy Minister of Finance Wisut Sisuphan on Monday visited the Government Savings Bank and delivered the ministry’s policies to the bank’s executives. He said the ministry planned to bring state enterprise banks to jointly manage the fund, including the Government Savings Bank, the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives and Krungthai Bank.

The banks will be responsible for account setup, money transfer and premium payment. The Fiscal Policy Office would have to prepare information connection for the National Savings Fund which would use the same criteria, said the deputy minister.

Yala tightens security on BRN’s anniversary

YALA, 9 February 2015 (NNT) - Authorities in the restive southern region have tightened security measures against the possibility of violence on the anniversary of the founding of the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) tomorrow.


Officials have beefed up security at the Ban Pong Yue Rai checkpoint in Mueang district of Yala province which is considered the main port of entry for the city. The move came after security forces received intelligence that insurgents intended to mark the anniversary of the BRN militant group on February 10th with symbolic attacks.

Related security agencies have urged the general public and their officers in the Deep South to exercise extreme caution during this period.
