My 7-Eleven has stopped giving me receipts

My 7-Eleven has stopped giving me receipts for the last 4 to 6 weeks (I'm here long-term). They always give me the correct change though, so I thought nothing of it until one day where the counter girl was about to give me the receipt, and then the other cashier pulled her hand back to prevent her from giving it to me. At that point I guess I was trained not to receive a receipt anymore and I just walked away.

I know by allowing this I'm letting bad habits flourish, but frankly as an ex-pat, I try not to start unnecessary fights. But if there's some sort of scam going on then I can change my tune and take a hard line.

Has anyone else noticed this? It's not at every location, I frequent three different 7-Eleven's and only the closest one to my apartment (deep in Sukhumvit 16, Asoke) does it every time, though other random ones do it on occasion also. Why are they not giving receipts?

Most likely tired of continually have to sweep the floor where everyone throws them! Look at the cash register display, it shows the amount of your purchase, the amount that you gave them and the change. What mote do you need other than a piece of paper, which is bio-degraeble to litter up the environment!

What more do I need?

Proof that I've paid and not just grabbed something and ran out the door with the bag less goodies only to be held up by some zealous police. I never take a bag but insist on a receipt the lesser of the two evils.

.

Yep.

I know of instances where just that has happened. Though none were in a 7-11.

Still, wouldn't take a chance.

A "Miracle" but the question should be did they stop giving you a plastic bag or 10 straws for a 2 litre bottle of milk like youre gonna sit in the car with a 2 litre bottle and a straw?

Not really a scam, as others pointed out there is a promo going on. It is the same when they had these little stamps, some 7/11's were very reluctant to give them to foreigners:-)

I have never seen a sale in a 7/11 not being rung up....

Suggest that the OP learns some basic Thai.

I always prefer a receipt when making a purchase just in case someone decides to accuse me of not paying for something, so it`s for my own protection. Many times in stores the staff fail to hand me a receipt, sometimes they just leave the receipts dangling in the till or throw them on the floor. I just say; Mi bihn krup (do you have the receipt please). Never had a problem, the staff always hand me a receipt when I ask.

As the wise man says; don`t make a drama, out of a crisis.

And then they tell you (in Thai): Good for you that you have a receipt and start laughing 5555

I suggest that you learn a little bit more than basic Thai :) Not to offend you, but just pointing out that your Thai sentence is not really correct.

There is also the scam where they scan the goods twice, e.g. two cans of coke instead of the one you wanted. They are then one can up, and can have it with their lunch - I've noticed this happen a couple of times after I've insisted on a receipt. Always an apology and a smile as though it was a genuine mistake.

they get points and discounts from that receipt, i advise you if you stay longtime in Thailand to make a 7/11 car it's free of charge and every time you pay you woudn't need to pay cash anymore as you are going to refill your card with money and pay with it in any 7/11 in Thailand, and you get accumulated points and other promotion which allow you to buy things for free with your points and that receipt is like someone else mentioned here for some discounted item which i never use but the points yes i do and i think it is very important cause it's same you are getting 10% discount sometimes you get much more points from certain items.

If you can't total your purchases, shame on you.

As a self confessed obsessive 7/11 promotions expert and stamp saver and the founder of the 7/11 appreciation society I finally fell qualified to answer a post here......

The current promotion (and the last one) is that for every 40B you spend, you get one promotion offer on your receipt which entitles you to purchase one of their promotional discount offers. (TBH as such a good customer and the fact I live next door to a 7/11 and am on facebook terms with all the staff, i dont actually need the receipt to be given the promotion price - bragging over lol)....

You never mentioned whether you used the 7/11 card or not ? Id suggest you do as you can collect points, which also qualify as a cash discount...

Either way, I think they are just keeping the receipts as they dont expect you wealthy sukhumvit felangs to need such discounts ;-)

PS best offer at the moment is sausage and cheese sandwich AND a bottle of Dutch Mill milk for 40B (discount of 11B !!)

In Pattaya they quite often try to cheat you on the discounted items, that is showing you the total without the discounts subtracted. To receive the discounts, they have to push the button for the total sum, otherwise the register will only display the subtotal (without the discounts applied!).

But sometimes they are just too stupid to hit that button. For example, you buy stuff for 206 baht and get discounts so its only 195. But the register shows 206 because they didn't hit the total button. Now I can't pay the exact sum because they would just keep the money. No, I have to pull out 500 so they have to put the amount I gave in the till so they get the return amount and I can get my correct change.

I hope you get me :)

Somebody tell this Bulgarian fool we are in Thailand here not Japan, it is customary to Wai here not bow!!!

The current receipts with Chinese writing on allow you discounts on certain items advertised on a board in 7/11.

You can insist on the receipt if you want it.

omg the horror of it all

And what do you do in all the small shops, street vendors and in the market where no one ever gives receipts? Are you frequently arrested for want of a receipt?
