webfact
No NACC consensus on 2010 crackdownThe NationBANGKOK: -- National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) secretary-general Sansern Polajiak said yesterday that the commission had deliberated on the cases against former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his then-deputy Suthep Thaugsuban in relation to the deadly crackdown on red-shirt protesters in 2010.He said NACC members agreed that they had insufficient evidence and information and were therefore unable to come to consensus.Furthermore, he said, the NACC needs to deliberate on legal principles based on the junta-imposed interim constitution's Article 17 in relation to public administration under emergency circumstances, which is related to this case. Therefore, he said, the commission is scheduled to hold another meeting in two weeks.Source: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/politics/No-NACC-consensus-on-2010-crackdown-30253811.html-- The Nation 2015-02-

Popular Post djjamie
I must admit the Right Honorable Abhisit and Suthep should be held responsible somewhat for the deaths. Abhisit would have learnt a very important lesson that day that you cannot afford to be complacent when it comes to terrorism. He showed way too much tolerance and patience. Had he come in quicker and harder before the red shirts where so emboldened and confident he could have saved countless lives. When the red shirts stormed the TV station and restored the TV signal after being met with, not bullets, but tear gas and water cannons the media questioned Abhisits control of the army after they offered futile resistance. Of course our favorite radical fundamentalist, Jatuporn, gave a reason why the army were less threatening than a new born baby. Not because Abhisit had tried countless times to negotiate a peaceful solution, not because he was a tolerant, Right Honorable man. What was Jatuporns reason? “The government is not concerned about people lives but worries that glass at shopping malls may be shattered. That is why the government has not yet used more brutal force against us,” MORE brutal force? So tear gas and water cannons is brutal force to our short plump all mouth accused terrorist!! This is the guy that leads armed terrorists that kidnap police and beat soldiers to within an inch of their lives. What a guy... lildragon
Well, this is unsurprising. I think even the most ardent of reds could admit that they are responsible for wrongdoings. But the other side getting off with absolutely everything away scott free absolutely defies belief and shows that there is no 'reconciliation' going on here. Just the typical enforcement of the status quo. Us richy BKK types good, you stupid country buffaloes bad.

Even with the reality of the situation so vividly clear some still fly against the face of it. YELLOW SHIRT LEADER; The Appeals Court upheld the lower court’s 20-year jail sentence on yellow shirt leader Sondhi Limthongkul, founder of the Manager Media Group for falsifying loan documents and fraud. Ahh, the reds always get a free pass. January has few exceptions to this. When one side commits most of the crimes logic dictates that that side will be arrested and jailed more often. Yellow Shirts: group of mostly elderly women who are dangerous for your ears only, peaceful (100% as long as not attacked), friendly to the tourists, party atmosphere, talks about getting rid of corruption and making Thailand better for everyone. collecting money to donate for the poor farmer, etc etc yes the Yellows are right and the Red are wrong!

Eric Loh
A disproportionate use of force using live rounds and snipers against protestors resulting in a bloodbath 5 years ago gets less attention from the NACC than a very recent rice subsidy case. The NACC seem to work at 2 speed - fast for the reds and no speed for the yellows. With this kind of procrastination and double standard in full view, forget about reconciliation and expect the reds to galvanize their disgust for the establishment and manifest in the next election with or without Thaksin.
bassman
Whether anyone or group is charged with what happened in 2010 is not as important as the matter be completely investigated and the truth be told. This holds true with the demonstrations and horrendous crimes committed in last years demonstrations. Anyone that believes the leadership of the "reds" are not one and the same as the elite of the yellows are fooling themselves. Thaksin and his bunch of thugs were just the outcasts of the Thai elite, that have and continue to rule. Neither the top of either color group will be seriously prosecuted as they are above the laws of the common man. When a prosecution does occur convictions are overturned, bails are granted and sentences are suspended. This is just fact of Thailand.

heybruce
yawn, ... What a riposte by a self proclaimed "true democrat". He follows the Thaksin version democracy - it is what we say it is. Right, much better to support the total absence of democracy.
Popular Post heybruce
Ah, the yellows always get a free pass....history has few exceptions to this. There are a few, but they are far between. The yellow shirt leader is in jail for 20 years while the red shirt leaders are walking free. Even with the reality of the situation so vividly clear some still fly against the face of it. Here are the exceptions you mention just for January this year. 12th of January - The Election Commissioner (EC) on Wednesday decided to throw out several complaints made against alleged election misconducts by former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra during the most recent general election in February, 2014. 13th of January - The Administrative Court on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit filed by 28 Bangkok and Nakhon Pathom residents against former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra in which they demanded compensation for damages from alleged mismanagement of floodwaters by her government in 2011. 21st of January - Former Pheu Thai MP Karoon Hosakul was granted bail after he was found guilty of defaming former Democrat MP Taenkhun Chit-isara 22nd of January - The Criminal Court on Thursday acquitted two former ministers and a member of the Pheu Thai party of defamation charges lodged against them by former finance minister Korn Chatikavanich RED SHIRT LEADER; 27th of January - Jatuporn bailed after receiving a two year jail sentence for defaming a former premier in comments made in 2009. It is the supporters of that side that scream injustice akin to folk in jail in the west that all feel hard done by and felt they lacked "true" justice. "When one side commits most of the crimes logic dictates that that side will be arrested and jailed more often. It is the supporters of that side that scream injustice akin to folk in jail in the west that all feel hard done by and felt they lacked "true" justice." It's pretty clear that Suthep and his minions committed the majority of the crimes in using violence and intimidation to disrupt the Feb 2014 elections. How many of them have been arrested and jailed?
Baerboxer
yawn, ... What a riposte by a self proclaimed "true democrat". He follows the Thaksin version democracy - it is what we say it is. Right, much better to support the total absence of democracy. You mean rather than an election followed by a period of we can and will do as we please, including lying, cheating and refusing to obey laws and any kind of transparency; and if you object our boys will come round and see you kind of democracy? Then yep, a in the open absence of democracy with a plan to reform to democracy is better than the lying pretense that democracy exists when it doesn't really. rubl
The NCAA has two ways of thinking when it comes to the Reds and the Yellows. The Yellows are always right and the Reds always wrong. This is why they will never be an reconciliation here in Thailand. Just mind as well keep the Junta for Life instead of more coups. the goal has never been reconciliation. nor has it ever been cleaning up corruption. nor was it ever about reform. it's only ever been about control. (also, love your typ-o... the NCAA is about basketball, the NACC is about kangaroo courts...) You're getting really annoying with your 'kangaroo courts'. Furthermore you show a disrespect for courts here while at other times having no problem with their rulings. Somewhat inconsistent. The NACC isn't about courts, the NACC is about the National Anti-Corruption Commission. Name doesn't really match their task otherwise they wouldn't even look into the 2010 case. www.nacc.go.th/main.php?filename=index_en
Tatsujin
brucec64 > no I don't blindly accept that the Army has cleared themselves, I'm just stating "facts", as opposed to "beliefs" in what people might want to happen/occur, or what the law actually is at any given point of time here in Thailand.
