Can I leave country with retirement visa, without reapplying?

Featured Replies

Have a one year retirement visa, need to go back to USA for Three weeks between 90 day reporting period!

Will that cancel my long term visa, as I want to stay in Thailand indifentely.

Need to do that moving forward, is that permitted?

Do you have a OA visa you got from an embassy or consulate or an extension of stay (it is not a visa) you got from immigration based upon retirement?

The reporting of staying longer than 90 days in country has nothing to do with your extension or visa. If you leave the country before you have been in the country for 90 days a report is no longer required. When you re-enter the country the 90 days start again and you will need to do a report 90 days from that date including it in the count.

You need to get a re-entry permit to keep your extension valid when you leave the country. A single is 1000 baht and a multiple 3800 baht. You can apply for it at the immigration office where you got your extension or at both airports in Bangkok 24 hours a day on departure from the country.

If you have a still valid OA visa you won't, in fact, need a re-entry permit so long as you both depart AND re-enter Thailand before its expiry date (whereupon you will be stamped in for a further 12 months).

However, if you have already made a trip out of Thailand within the validity period of your OA visa and do not plan on returning from your upcoming 3-week trip until after its expiry date, you will definitely need a re-entry permit to keep your latest 12-month permission to stay (which post-dates the visa expiry date) live.

You just need a re-entry stamp.

Have a one year retirement visa ...

If you have a non-imm O-A visa issued by an embassy or consulate, that is still valid ( not reached its "use by" date ) you can go out and return without a problem as long as you're back before its "use by date."

If you have an extension of stay (which is not a visa) issued by an immigrations office in Thailand, you need a re-entry permit. The re-entry permit will be valid until the extension ends, so you would need to be back in Thailand before your renewal date.

You say one year retirement visa, if that's the case and you come back before the "use by" date then you have nothing to worry about.

Of course, most people who think they have a retirement visa have no such thing.

What do you have ? A visa or an extension ?

See the 2 photo below and then you will get the correct answer from members.

The visa is the sticker and issued at Embassy or Consulate abroad

The extension is simply a stamp and issued by Immigration Offices in Thailand

You have to go to Immigration and get a re-entry permit or you will not have your Retirement Visa when you return!

You have to go to Immigration and get a re-entry permit or you will not have your Retirement Visa when you return!

As said above, the OP first must clarify what he got.

He doesn't need a re-entry permit if he has a OA often call "Retirement Visa".
