I like here in Thailand, fresh air in isaan. beautiful! I have just a great time.

I do not buy a Sunday magazine to save coupons for Wal mart shopping. I don't have to park a car around a shopping mall and remember what s the name of the entrance.

I don't have to drive hours on a I-35 down to Texas just for a dumb job.

USA became so expensive that salaries didn't increase form these last 15 years.? I remember years ago people had 3 jobs to survive. who have 3 jobs in Thailand? USA is going down. nothing good left. it s really a shame , could be a nice country but they screwed it!

Europe is kaput as well.

guys, don't let the door....

I never "get" these types of topics...I especially never get the

20 or more pages that will surely follow with all the opinions.

First off why do folks post I am leaving X country

Who cares? I do not mean that in a bad way but really who cares?

Especially to post them on a forum dedicated to living traveling in X country why does one feel the need

to post they are leaving X country? Who cares....I am sure you have your reasons

But what makes me shake my head most is the 20 pages that always follows about why the new or returning to the old country is better than X country

It is a silly circular argument. Not all folks are the same...Life is more than what it costs to live somewhere. Not everyone eats the same foods or needs to speak the same language.

Otherwise.... I mean it is Sunday no need to ask about restaurants we must all be eating chicken right? smile.png

Everyone is different, everyone has different requirements & definitions of what is comfortable to them. Comfortable in the ways of

perceived freedoms, foods, people, scenery. What some need others do not. What some want others do not.

Folks on this forum who are leaving always have to make a statement & belittle the place they are leaving with snide remarks

Remarks like those that are here are only here for one reason or are happy with less, pollution, ripoffs etc etc etc....as if any country in the world does not have its warts

Really I wish you all well where ever you decide to live. But not everyone wants to live in the same place.

Those that live in the place you now seem to hate for ever having visited do not need to hear your excuse/reason of why your now leaving. It is not a failure for you to leave.....

Go........Be Happy where ever you can find happiness.

personally i enjoy reading about why people are leaving, so i care. i also enjoy reading negative type rants and complaining type threads.

i wish we were allowed to really go off cuss and belittle posters as well, but you can't have everything.

The Op was about whether or not you would die in Thailand. It evolved.

Why do you people have such an enormous problem with an open discussion? If you don't like our comments, you are certainly free to ignore them. If you love it in Thailand, feel free to express such, without fear we who no longer live there will attack you for your opinions.

Fair point but if you had kept your response as short as the OP's question instead of categorising all the mostly incomparable things that you think is better (including shopping at Walmart?!) then the ensuing 'discussion' would have more cadence and less vitriol.

As I said,I am happy that you find life back in the US better than your seven years in Thailand but did you really need to go overboard on what didn't float your boat here?

For what it's worth and in response to the OP, no, I don't see myself here to the end either. I don't love Thailand but by the same token, I don't 'love' my homeland either although the whisky, salmon fishing and grouse shooting is pretty unbeatable IMHO. But, that will be my final resting place... Insha'Allah

The one where you say I went "overboard" was in response to a gentle challenge issued by Mesquite. I simply listed the things that immediately came to mind. I don't guess it was too long, because so far it has 72 likes and a number of quotes.

While I do appreciate your even tone, and your warm wishes, I disagree that it was my fault that other posters were less congenial and mature than you. Anybody can write long or short posts, and anyone can read or ignore anyone else's posts.

Conflict is necessary for keeping interest, but confrontation can be accomplished in a civil manner. Rudeness and name calling, wishes for bad luck and tragedy, are never called for.

I was so sorry to hear of your wasted days in Thailand. From the late Jim Croce:

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day
'Til eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

Yea man, I'm tired of the "get on the plane" "don't let the door hit you in the arse" "go back where you came from" people.

Politeness and consideration are not a characteristic they have.

Those posts do nothing but clog up the thread, are meaningless and useless and of no help... but several of these people must get their punches in or they feel cheated.

It reminds me of the projects. I hated going there because of all the hatred and animosity and resentful people.

But, it's like the smokers in public... they just do it with disregard and inconsideration and they ain't gonna change any time soon.

why do we say "go back home" ? it s because for years USA government said the same to foreigners. it was just insulting, being called an alien is an insult. only USA call people alien in this world.

now many people get their revenge, since you have now to pay your tax, many us guys are coming back home. so just go home and let us live in Thai paradise.

enjoy your Sunday shopping at shittty Wal-Mart!

Wrong. Many countries use the term alien including in the EU. Japan, Korea, Thailand....

I really do not understand all the bickering about the US

Salaries are on the rise, but the US economy has grown more small businesses in the last 20 years, that are not counted in the payrolls numers

If you want a closer look at the economy,

as General contractors if they are working

ask electricians if they are working

ask roofers if they are working

if any of these are in business as S corp.s, or P.A's or LLC's they will not show up in the Non Farm Payrolls numbers,

if you want to know if the US is working, ask people if the rush hour traffic is getting longer or shorter

None of this, has anything to do with the actual topic,

and, not everyone can take Thailand all year round,

I learned I could not, so I travel back to it, and, yes, I travel back to Thailand and Bangkok, nmot for the freakin polluted heat, but because, I have friends there. I play music there, and yes,

I love the girls

even the hoe's

but I don't limit myself to them, but,

because the other girls I know, the nurse, the IT consultant, the medical addistant, all know I am not staying, they won't sleep with me, so

there is always the soapy's

best bar(gain) on the planet

Life is certainly cheaper here, unless you insist on trying to live a western lifestyle.

But if you want to live a western lifestyle, why the hell move here in the first place?

Because I like living in a place where I need not fear being electrocuted when I take a shower?

I also have a thing about a proper bathroom. I can't stand a wet bathroom floor. Aside from the danger, it's unsanitary.

I also like a bathroom and kitchen where sewage gases do not stink up the place.

I can go on, but I like my western lifestyle.

Fair enough. That doesn't really answer my question, though, does it?

problem in the USA it s very hard to make any friend. here it s much easier. European and Thai are much more friendly than the USA guys. In USA you get a "hi" and nothing else.

the guys who set the Boston bomb said they have no US friends.

This is don't understand. Most of my best friends in the USA I have since about 1970 or before. My best friend has been a friend since before we attended school. His dad was our family doctor and he is a retired heart surgeon.

I won't make friends hanging in bars or shopping malls. To make new friends I'd have to join some civic clubs etc. and be around people I have something in common with.

I don't judge any Western nationality by what I see in Thailand. I don't believe that expats are necessarily representative of the country they came from as a whole.

probably you friend is from Europe. most guys born in the USA are obnoxious and real first degree minded. (their jokes are about sex mainly and most US guys insult women)

they will just invite you to see the super ball and eat turkey while watching dumb TV with guys chasing a ball that is not even oval. smile.png

their conversation is just gossiping as they have been nowhere except a trip or two to Las Vegas.

(so they can say they have been to Paris and Venice)

believe me, I know the USA, it' s just a terrible country filled with zombies, Wal Marts , churches and fast foods at every corner.

don't talk to them about Thailand, they all think it's a town in Mexico.

back to USA? no thanks!

American girls stupid?

Have you tried to hold a conversation with a thai one?

Ok..I will make it better...have you tried a conversation with a thai man?

...or even a university prof. here?

Suddenly the fat pigs in America seem like geniuses...

I'm pretty certain, Vinnie, that you're not nearly as bright as you think you are.

Newsflash - When you enter the USA without proper documents you're an "illegal alien" They'll stop being called that when they stop entering the country via swimming, hiding in engine compartments, shipping containers etc, etc etc

It doesn't matter how I enter the US, it's not possible for me to be an illegal alien there.

it's all about priorities.

i live 2 lives: here and there. both have goods sides, both have bad sides.

when in thailand i don't drink wine. when in the west i don't drink ... leo ;)

i don't do the whoring there nor here so that issue is a non-event. in the west my housing is free, in thailand i pay 5000B (furnished house) + water /wifi / elec.

in the west i pay 20-40 euro for a restaurant meal including (glass of) wine. in thailand i pay 250B for decent (thai) restaurant including beer. the latter would cost me 30 euro in the west. conclusion: i don't eat thai in the west ;)

as for the nosepicking: in thailand everything is al fresco (openly in your face). i don't wanna know what happens in the kitchens of restaurants in the west. i've heard too many stories... haha.

as for the smiling: i don't assign any value to it. it has been discussed so often yet. it's an asian thing. i'm not asian. next please.

i agree in full that quality-western-live in thailand is overpriced. i stay clear from it and treat myself when i'm in the west.

oh and as for the women, i'm not interested in Thai women (at least not for now). never came here with that factor in mind. maybe when i'm old and lonely. maybe.

hope the door kicks you in the arse on the way out, bye!

What an intelligent spin on an otherwise overused and idiotic saying. Doors have feet in thailand?

Here's a thought...maybe thailand doesn't want people like you here spouting off nonsense on the Internet.

my Thai lady knows where USA or any countries of Europe is.

In USA, USA ladies have no idea where Thailand is, have no idea where Germany, or Sweden is.

if I have to go to USA again it's to live a Cowboys life, ride a horse , sleep outside, do BBQ....

this was America, America doesn't exist any more since they call us" aliens. ".

in USA everything is prohibited or taxed.

-snip-

in USA everything is prohibited or taxed.

"Everything"? There's a lot more prohibited to me in Thailand than there is in the US. Let's start with owning property or opening or running any business I'd like or working anywhere I'd like. I could go on and on.

Taxed? Do you know why things from consumer goods to electronics to cars are so expensive in Thailand? Taxes. Import, excise, VAT...

Go ahead and say you prefer Thailand, but those reasons won't cut it.

Thailand's VAT and other import taxes are being paid directly by the consumer

In the US, it is so big that prices for everything drop dramatically as soon as you are away from the big cities.

Thailand has how many big cities?

??? The taxes on a new car that make the car cost a lot more in Thailand are country wide. The import taxes are country wide.

In the US the lack of import and other federal taxes are country wide. Yes, it's more expensive to live in a big city in the US than rural, but the price of a new car in a big city can actually be less due to competition. In the US there's a federal mandate that the suggested retail price be affixed to the car. After that, negotiating is up to you.

It would be cheaper to buy a new car in New York City than it would be in Nowhere Thailand due to taxes.

Like many of us who post on Thai Visa, the more you post the more convinced I become that you really have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

I believe I read in previous posts of yours that you had a career in the US military and spent some time in the US. However, by the direction, anger and quality of your posts, I would say that your knowledge, understanding and comprehension of the US and its citizens, laws and diversity is very, very limited. When discussing the US, you know little or nothing.

Your anger over the legal term alien is a great example. Rather than taking the time to study and understand the legal definition of this term as it applies to a non-US citizen - you take the easy way out - ignorant outrage and anger.

However the solution to change your status from alien in the US is simple - become a citizen. When that happens, for as long as you retain citizenship you will never, ever again be classified as an alien.

That is different from, say, Thailand, where no matter how long one stays, what one's citizenship, tax and/or family status, even if one has declared allegiance to everything this fine country stands for, he/she will remain always and forever a . . . falang.

Lasted seven years, came back last fall.

Cost of living is cheaper here, better quality of life, and:

People smile without hoping for anything other than a smile back;

Haven't heard a single dog bark in three months, let alone been attacked by a pack of them;

No burning of plastic;

No loud music, caterwauling as the moon sets, or unbridled exhaust;

Haven't seen one person pick their nose. Nope, not even the person preparing my food ...

Were there good things about my time in Thailand? Sure, but no where near enough to consider living there any longer, let alone dying there.

My wife is joining me in April. We have a bucket list in the first month that includes:

The Grand Canyon- camping and rafting;

Las Vegas- attending a Cirque de Sol show, and, in the casinos, losing money;

Driving north from San Diego through Malibu, sailing to and about Catalina, then taking Hwy 1 up the coast into Washington State and eventually Victoria, B.C. We'll stop at wineries and cheese farms along the way, detouring for camping in Sequoia National Park, and Redwood National Forest. Then Yosemite and back over to the coast ….

Absolutely no way I would consider wasting another precious day of life in LOS.

It has come full circle hasn't it? From the land of your birth back again assuming that you are american.
