Featured Replies

Krabi:- Some 2,000 Chinese tourists have been arriving at Krabi in 12 direct flights from China each day since Tuesday and they are expected to generate some Bt340 million of revenue for the southern seaside province during the Chinese New Year, an official said Thursday.

On Thursday, hundreds of Chinese tourists were seen arriving at the Nopparat Thara Beach in Tambon Ao Nang of Krabi’s Muang district since in the morning to rent various types of boat to visit small islands in the National Nopparat Thara-Phi Phi Islands National Park. Their popular destinations included the Thale Waek connected beaches of three islands and Koh Podah.

Wiyada Sriwarangkul, the director of Krabi Office of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said Chinese tourists have been arriving in large number since Tuesday.

Wiyada said the tourists have been arriving in direct flights from China to the Krabi International Airport since Tuesday to celebrate the Chinese New Year. She said they arrived in 11 chartered flight and a normal flight each day so about 1,500 to 2,000 Chinese tourists arrived in the province each day.

The huge number of Chinese tourists made tourism businesses in the seaside province bustling, she added.

She said the occupancy rate in the province during this period was higher than 95 per cent. She said the Chinese tourists like to visit popular beaches like the famous connected beaches, Pohda Island, May Bay and the Phi Phi Islands.

Wiyada said Krabi has been fully prepared to accommodate tourists during the Chinese New Year holidays and it is expected that visiting tourists would spend more than Bt340 million in the province during the period.

2000 rude loudmouth spitting and vandalizing quality tourist in one place per day. Lucky us who are far away from this town.

Arriving! Hope the same number are leaving otherwise ... Yikes I dread to think ...

Why are we constantly being bombarded with news stories about damn Chinese tourists invading the Kingdom ? We know they are here, we know that TAT is planning to bring in 20.5 million over 5 years, which we are told could increase, we know that they are incredibly rude, obnoxious and dirty, we know that the future of Thailand is Chinese and we know that falang are being slowly pushed out by stealth. That's it.

Please no more stories on the Chinese locusts, I want to forget about them. No amount of our worrying about it will change the course of Thai history.

In related news, Krabi Bus Terminal was forced to provide extra buses at short notice to nearby destinations of Khao Lak and Koh Lanta, as a huge number of foreign tourists from Europe, Australia and the Americas suddenly descended on the bus station and demanded a bus ticket to 'anywhere, we don't care, just go now', as one Swedish tourist put it.

You may be surprised to hear that a high proportion of Thais don't like Chinese. This is historical, going back several hundred years. The Thai Chinese (mostly merchants and military) were kept in line by governments of the day. Example, in the early 1900's on of the Thai Kings ordered that all Chinese are to adopt Thai names. Monopoly prevention I believe. And this is to be the prominent name on the front of the shops. Thai names at the time were relatively short, but the names adopted by the Chinese were very long. You can see this today. Very auspicious names were basically handed out to the Chinese hi-so elite. Break the names down into their elements and they usually revolve around money.

You should see the number of impolite names the Thai have for the Chinese, and wickedly funny phrases.

The average Thai in the street do not like the mainland Chinese tourist. They think they are dirty and stupid. Recent events has just strengthened those prejudices. Of course the hi-so TAT sycophants will want as many Chinese tourists as they can get. After-all they don't want to miss out on their bonus.
