Thailand expresses concern on Libyan situation

BANGKOK, Feb 20 -- Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing concern, urging all parties to respect human rights and international humanitarian law, demanding an end to violence against civilians in Libya.

Sek Wannamethee, spokesman of the ministry, said the statement stressed that Thailand is deeply concerned by the continued violence in Libya which has gravely affected both Libyan civilians and foreign nationals in the country.

The statement says that Thailand calls on all sides to strictly respect human rights and international humanitarian law, particularly putting an immediate end to any act of violence against innocent civilians in Libya.

The statement reads that Thailand fully supports international efforts, especially the UN-led mediation between all parties concerned, in order to achieve a peaceful solution and restore calm and stability to Libya and the region. (MCOT online news)

This is just a tactic to gain support and that Thailand should be raised from tier 3. When it nay benefit then they show concern. I have never seen such a report like this about other countries.

And the laughs just keep on coming, Don't Thais understand what they spew out of there mouths?

A lot more diplomatic than recent comments by a US diplomat.

They could have gone into the true cause of the Libyan crisis which has turned it from one of the richest countries in Africa into the mess it is today.

Is Thailand not supposed to have an independent viewpoint of the horror being inflicted on Libya?

Interesting that Israel talks about military cooperation, and the next day the Thai government expresses concerns about Israel's least stable neighbor.

Do these people even think before opening their mouths?

This from a country who got dumped down to Tier Level 3 for their own human rights abuses.

Sek Wannamethee, just get on with your lunch mate, start worrying when IS opens a camp in the South of Thailand.

That's a bit rich coming from a country that is listed T3 and actively abuses human rights on foreigners every day. Take a look at the UN Declaration of Human Rights which Thailand is a signatory too and you will discover that Thailand is one of the worst offenders in the world for abusing even basic rights.

I would like to know if the Minister could actually locate Libya on the map.

I'm so happy I no longer live in the Land of Human Rights Abuses.

So in applying Thailand's level of Human rights :

Does that mean when the EU patrol boats which intercept and rescue "Asylum seekers/economic refugees" in the Mediterranean Sea we should in fact be towing those engineless boats out into the Atlantic to flow freely on their way?

(Incidentally, any travellers from Europe notice a deviation in flight routes whilst travelling over the Middle East? Guess IS may have a minor impact after all.)

Libya is a threat to the Eu not isreal. The least stable Israeli neighbours are Syria, Lebanon, Egypt.

Libya has to be a Thai general's wet dream. Three simultaneous military coups happening with no citizens in the way.

I also enjoy New Zealand politicians, they also sprout great lines that are taken seriously by the rest of the world, the Libyans they listen upto New Zealand leaders, and take their guidance more seriously than the Koran.
