You should apply for your new passport as soon as possible. You will still have your old passport to apply for the extension documents.

The school can get the paperwork with your old passport and you could apply for your extension with your new passport if it arrives on time.

Ahhh... yes this is what I thought but, however can I check with you? These are the concerns I had about the renewal steps.

- School sends paperwork, on old passport details (they said to extend on new passport, they need it first?)

- Go to Bangkok: Send my documents for the application process early. ex 25th May. (I keep my old passport?)

- I get a document from embassy, for ID, or travel purposes?

- UK Visa/Passport renewal requests my old passport to cancel, (they said I will not receive my new passport until old one is cancelled, by cutting corners)

- Go to Bangkok again? to send my old passport for cancelling?

A - My new passport (and old with cut corners) arrives in time for the 22 June, extension day... and I can extend my ED-Visa on my new passport?

B - My new passport doesn't arrive in time, fined 500.- per day until it arrives?

Thank you for your time also! I am being very specific...

I am trying to confirm these two points also, some people say I will need to send my old passport back anyway - another trip to bangkok?... before they will issue my new one? Confusing as the website: https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports/y/thailand/renewing_new/adult says:

"You must also bring your current passport with you when you apply, and a full colour photocopy of the entire passport (every page including blank pages).

You can’t travel with it after you’ve applied for a new one - but you will be able to keep your existing passport for ID purposes."
Will they just cancel/invalidate my old passport at time of application in Bangkok?
Lastly, I have to try to get an early appointment first also... if the earliest appointment date is 8th June onwards... is that too risky?
Thanks everyone and Ubonjoe! Really helping having proper information.

When you make your UK passport application in BKK the old passport is not physically marked in anyway.

When your new passport is ready for collection you take it to Bangkok, it has the corners cut off only when you get your new passport.

You really shouldn't have listened to your school who patently don't understand the full rules involved in either passport renewal or for that matter extension of permission to stay.

Current waiting times for an application appointments are running at 1-2 weeks plus passport renewals at 2-3 weeks; if you start today and are incredibly lucky then your new passport might just arrive in time for completion of the extension process.

As ubonjoe posted you may just have to run with an extension until 27th July if your replacement passport is not yet back.

Forget about sending in a covering letter, etc. pleading for a rapid response, trust me, you will get no better a result than if you tried sweet talking your living room wall.

Man, that is so clear cut and understandable information, thank you so much! You guys are really great, will always credit you.

I have a couple of options and will try to rush on the passport renewal application process (thank you), I will see when I can get the appointment and just apply asap anyway right? As I can still use my old/current passport for the extension on 22nd June to 27th July (even though they say I cannot travel on my old passport after the application in BKK? doesn't affect the extension process correct?).

Worse case that happens, and it is only to 27th July, when my new passport arrives, I transfer the Visa from old pp to new passport. Then before 27th July, do a 'border run' for a 30day tourist visa on my new passport?

Option 2, in relation to my other 2 topics: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/807489-uk-visa-for-long-term-thai-gf-visiting-my-uk-family-vaf1b/ travel back to UK before 27th July, get my Thai Nationality done in London at Royal Thai Embassy - they can do it in a day by appointment (A whole other story, I will write a topic about this to be pinned for other people like me) and come back on my Thai passport (it will be a thai passport substitute document first as passport can't be done instantly).

Really appreciate the replies people.

Thanks for this, so does that mean, 1, Old passport can still be used for travel? (even though they say it cant?) Like, back to Chiang Mai from Bangkok. and 2. I can use the old passport (to be cancelled when picking up new passport) to do the extension first, if the new passport does not arrive in time?

Cheers all.

1. You can travel domestically but not international.

2.Yes

Thanks ubonjoe, very easy answers ha. So 'cannot travel internationally', does that include travelling back home to the UK? Even with a travel document from British Embassy in Bangkok perhaps?

Have you emailed for an appointment yet? I suggest you do, and you do it immediately. Currently appointments are booked up 2 weeks in advance. I know, because I have made an appointment myself in the last few days.

It took 3 emails to even get a reply. It seems that if you ask for a set of dates that are not available then your email is disregarded and you get no reply at all.

Email for an appointment - don't waste any more time.

If you got a emergency travel document you could travel to anywhere shown on it. https://www.gov.uk/government/world/organisations/british-embassy-bangkok#our-services
