Sukhothai Historical Park tackles badly behaved tourists

BANGKOK, 22 February 2015 (NNT) - The Sukhothai Historical Park has stepped up measures against socially unacceptable behavior of tourists at the site. Signs have been put up to prohibit such conduct.

Director of the Sukhothai Historic Park Nongkhran Suksom said the park had installed signs banning inappropriate behavior such as the signs prohibiting tourists from climbing up stupas, Buddha images, altars as well as all surrounding walls. The park officers had been instructed to always patrol the premises and warn badly behaved tourists.

The director added that both Thai and foreign tourists visited the 700-year-old Sukhothai Historical Park all year round, especially in January. It was therefore necessary for the park to prevent inappropriate behavior which might affect the image of Thailand in terms of tourism, she said.
