Muslim group: 'Jihadi John' resembles UK man Mohammed Emwazi

LONDON (AP) — A London-based Muslim lobbying group says there are "striking similarities" between the masked militant known as "Jihadi John" and a London man named Mohammed Emwazi.

Emwazi has been identified by news organizations as the masked militant with a British accent shown in beheading videos released by the Islamic State group in Syria.

CAGE, which works with Muslims in conflict with British intelligence services, said Thursday its research director, Asim Qureshi, saw strong similarities but due to the hood won by the militant, "there was no way he could be 100 percent certain."

The Study of Radicalization and Political Violence at King's College London, which closely tracks fighters in Syria, also said it believed the identification was correct.

British counter-terrorism officials would not confirm the man's identity.

There has to be something inherently evil in a person to do what he's been doing to another human being. He's a psychopath born and bred; someone who likes to scare people and ultimately make them suffer unspeakable horrors. He enjoys it I'm sure.

All this bs about radicalization is just an excuse for despicable individuals like him to join the ranks of the maniacs intent on literally wallowing in a bloodbath.

If ever there was a need to nuke a whole city like Raqqa which IS appears to have settled on as their capital, this is it. Annihilate the vile, murderous bastards in one go.

'Jihadi John' identified as London-raised college grad
By JILL LAWLESS

LONDON (AP) — The world knows him as "Jihadi John," the masked, knife-wielding militant in videos showing Western hostages being beheaded by the Islamic State group. On Thursday he was identified as a London-raised university graduate known to British intelligence for more than five years.

The British-accented militant from the chilling videos is Mohammed Emwazi, a man in his mid-20s who was born in Kuwait and raised in a modest, mixed-income area of west London.

No one answered the door at the brick row house where Emwazi's family is said to have lived. Neighbors in the area of public housing projects either declined comment or said they didn't know the family.

British anti-terror officials wouldn't confirm the man's identity, citing a "live counterterrorism investigation." But a well-placed Western official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak publicly, confirmed he is Emwazi.

One man who knew Emwazi portrayed him as compassionate, a description completely at odds with the cruelty attributed to him.

"The Mohammed that I knew was extremely kind, extremely gentle, extremely soft-spoken, was the most humble young person that I knew," said Asim Qureshi of CAGE, a London-based advocacy group that counsels Muslims in conflict with British intelligence services.

Qureshi noted strong similarities between the man in the beheading videos and Emwazi, who he first met in 2009. But, "I can't be 100 percent certain."

"The guy's got a hood on his head. It's very, very difficult," Qureshi said, adding that his last contact with Emwazi was in January 2012.

Asked whether it was helpful or hurtful to have the jihadi publicly identified, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that investigators over the last several months "have found it to their advantage to not talk publicly about the details or progress of that investigation." He didn't confirm the identity of the suspect.

The Center for the Study of Radicalization and Political Violence at King's College London, which closely tracks fighters in Syria, said it believed the identification was correct.

"Jihadi John" appeared in a video released in August showing the slaying of American journalist James Foley, denouncing the West before the killing. Former captives identified him as one of a group of British militants that prisoners had nicknamed "The Beatles."

A man with similar stature and voice was also featured in videos of the killings of American journalist Steven Sotloff, Britons David Haines and Alan Hemming, and U.S. aid worker Abdul-Rahman Kassig.

The Washington Post and the BBC, which first identified the masked man in the video as Emwazi, said he was born in Kuwait, grew up in west London and studied computer programming at the University of Westminster. The university confirmed that a student of that name graduated in 2009.

"If these allegations are true, we are shocked and sickened by the news," the university said in a statement.

The news outlets said Emwazi was known to British authorities before he traveled to Syria in 2012, and Qureshi said Emwazi had accused British intelligence agents of harassing him.

Emwazi first contacted CAGE in 2009, Qureshi said. He had traveled to Tanzania with two other men after leaving university, but was deported and questioned in Amsterdam by British and Dutch intelligence services, who suspected him of attempting to join al-Shabaab militants in Somalia.

The following year, Emwazi accused the British intelligence services of preventing him from traveling to Kuwait, where he planned to work and marry.

CAGE quoted an email Emwazi had sent saying, "I had a job waiting for me and marriage to get started. But now I feel like a prisoner, only not in a cage, in London."

Qureshi accused British authorities of alienating and radicalizing young British Muslims with heavy-handed policies.

"When we treat people as if they are outsiders, they will inevitably feel like outsiders, and they will look for belonging elsewhere," he said.

Congregants leaving a mosque in the west London neighborhood where Emwazi is believed to have lived said they didn't know Emwazi and didn't believe he had worshipped there.

Neighbor Janine Kintenda, 47, who said she'd lived in the area for 16 years, was shocked at the news.

"Oh my God," she said, lifting her hand to her mouth. "This is bad. This is bad."

Shiraz Maher of the King's College radicalization center said he was investigating whether Emwazi was among a group of young west Londoners who traveled to Syria in about 2012.

Many of them are now dead, including Mohammad el-Araj, Ibrahim al-Mazwagi and Choukri Ellekhlifi, all killed in 2013.

Maher said it appears that Emwazi survived, and has become one of the most prominent members of the Islamic State group, a fighter whose confidence and Western accent are calculated to strike fear into viewers of the group's grisly videos.

Maher said Emwazi's background was similar to that of other British jihadis, and disproved the idea "that these guys are all impoverished, that they're coming from deprived backgrounds."

"They are by and large upwardly mobile people, well educated," he said.

The daughter of British aid worker Haines, who was killed in September, told ITV News that identifying the masked man was "a good step."

"But I think all the families will feel closure and relief once there's a bullet between his eyes," Bethany Haines said.

Sotloff's family said they felt "relieved" and "take comfort" after Emwazi's identity was revealed, and hope he will be caught and sent to prison.

"We want to sit in a courtroom, watch him sentenced and see him sent to a super-max prison where he will spend the rest of his life in isolation," family spokesman Barak Barfi told the BBC.

Just saw an interview with some CAGE scumbag on BBC complaining of Jihadi John's poor treatment at the hands of the UK anti-terror services and his alienation from British life. Just one excuse after another and not a mention of the beheadings or the victims and their families. He was described as 'a beautiful man'. Made me sick and reminded me of some apologists here.

At the same press conference was some sad convert complaining of being questioned over his visit to Iraq and the subsequent restrictions imposed by the government. Not a word on WHY he went to Iraq. CAGE should be banned under anti-terror laws.

I fear for the UK. I really do.

"He was a beautiful person".

So were the innocent victims he killed.

Those <deleted> from CAGE should be in a cage.

Get those damn beards cut off now.

I really HATE these muslims. Yes, all of them.

I hope the British government come up with something really clever for a change.

Maybe ALL his relatives get shipped out to Syria

We're not doing nearly enough tho crush these vermin.

On another thread, the forthcoming British election is being discussed. I tell you, the party that promises to put the muslims under the heel would win.

Let the pogroms begin......

I am so ANGRY

Perhaps someone could just publish the names, addresses and other information about family members and see what happens. They might live in one of those so called no-go zones where the police might be slow to respond to any problems.

But first it might be wise to find out if they support his activities or not. He is such a pathological creature he probably doesn't care what happens to his family.

If this "jihadi John" is a criminal then are not Bush and Blair also? These two scumbags murdered hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and they are freely shooting off their mouths about how good they are. And what about the occupiers of Palestine, the Zionists, who are commiting crimes against the Palestinians everyday.

Deary me!

Don't you realise it's way beyond that now?

Yes Bush and Cheney were to blame for wrongly attacking Iraq and dragging poor little Tony in to it as well.

Yes that has exacerbated the problems we have now.

Yes Netenyahoo is a <deleted>

BUT we have to deal with the muslim scum in our midst

our countries our now massively infected with these creatures.

Eradication is needed now

We brought them into our countries. At election time, our politicians thank them for enriching our lifestyle.

Now we have to deal with the consequences as some turn against us (which is what is happening in Canada).

As one said recently to a fellow businessman, just wait until we take over this country, we'll teach you how to run a business.

Deport his entire family for not notifying officials as to their son's actions. This will set an example to those who harbor or are related to these dogs. If someone related to you commits terrorists acts or goes to fight the entire family is in danger. Act swiftly and deport ASAP !!!

The unfortunate outcome of all of this is a change to our social values and rights - it is not going to affect right thinking people though so I don't have a problem with it

The free world in the west needs to unfree itself very quickly and start a draconian crack down on the doctrine of hate - religion needs to be controlled and governed as an individual right and prevented from being used as a tool for mass decent and hatred - it is time to realise and face the reality of history that religion is and has been the cause of most if not all of mans most heinous evil deeds and treated as such and dealt with accordingly before it is too late - history doesn't lie, yes send troops to the middle east but also deal with the threat on your doorstep

Time is running out

Yes by all means follow your religious beliefs but do it on your own and keep it to yourself

I rather suspect someone high up knows

In my opinion, any mosque supporting people like this, financially or any other way, should be demolished. 1 Mosque in my home town is run by a group on America's watch list.

Jihad John is a dbag but he's a direct result of how muslims have been treated in the UK for a while. We reap what we sow. I'm surprised more American and especially French muslims haven't copied, but enough French muslims have joined ISIS, I guess it's just a matter of who we want to blame.

Jihad John is a murdering terrorist calling him a simple dbag is an insult to all he has harmed. Playing the blame game from a religion that has not only tolerated but has financed and supported this plaque on humanity is sad on your part.

My only hope for jihad john is that he is captured alive and slowly decapitated with a butter knife over several days. Then after the attempted decapitations have felled, slow roasted on a spit until burnt.

Yeah! Poor ol' Jihadi John. All that free schooling, free health care and degree from the University of Westminster must have taken a heavy toll on the poor sod.

It's so hard to be a farang in Thailand, all that double pricing and girls selling themself for next to nothing to blow you. Oh man, what a hard life. You obviously have no idea what real discrimination is.

That being said, he needs to burn, for a long time but free school and free healthcare do not reverse discrimination.

This is the kind of mindset Muslims in the UK have. Shift the onus onto and blame those trying to prevent terror attacks, all the while minimizing one's own guilt.

Failing this, the race card ("homophobia", "bigotry" etc.) will be played (see TV's own Islamists) as a way to silence any criticism.

Cage stated that Mohammed Emwazi had earlier traveled to Tanzania. He told security services he was there on 'safari'.cheesy.gif

Security services believed he wanted to join al-Shabab in Somalia and sent him back to the UK.

The BBC wrote that "They (Emwazi and two cohorts) were interrogated and Emwazi later claimed to Cage, a campaign group in London, that they had been subject to harassment and abuse."

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-31641569

"Harassment and abuse."??? The poor dears. that's enough to turn anyone into a serial beheader of innocent aid-workers. blink.png

If these people are so focused on being muslims and living as muslims Why T F are they not living in a muslim country - what T F are they doing in the UK

Ok people should have the right to live where they want regardless of faith up to a point provided they are willing to live by the law and keep it to themselves - that no longer seems possible and I now support that all these muslims should be removed from the UK unless they are willing to comply to a very strict set of rules and keep their beliefs and customs behind closed doors and to themselves.

Are you living like a Thai in Thailand ?
