How to legalize a marriage celebrated abroad?

Hi,

i am french, my wife s thai, we got married in Singapore and are now living in Bangkok.

What s the swiftest and cheapest way to get it registered in Thailand so that i can get a proper visa to stay here?

We do have a House Registration book but i am not on it, only our children.

I did some search but couldn t find anything relevant. I assume we have to translate the marriage certificate in thai, get the translation legalized - So who can do that? And then, go to some administration to get the marriage written on the House book? What s the name of the administration?

Thanks

First of all you should have asked the consul at the French Embassy in Singapore to register your marriage so that it becomes legal according to the French law.

From this moment you can obtain a copy of marriage certificate at any French consulate in the world.

If it cannot become legal in France because you did not comply with French laws about marriage then you have a problem but I think the Singapore authorities would not have married you without you submit to them paperwork certifying that you complied with the laws of your country.

Call the consul at the French Embassy in Bangkok or better write them an email because for them this a routine question.

You need to get the Marriage Certificate translated into Thai, take it to the MFA (on Chaeng Wattana Road), get it certified by them, then go to an Amphur and have it registered, you will receive a document, with this you can get an Extension of your current visa, if you meet all the other requirements.
