Work permit for spouse of Thai citizen

Featured Replies

Some of my friends have got married to Thai nationals and are in applying for Thai citizenship. Do they have to get work permits, and if yes, are they limited to any particular jobs, please?

Yes, they must have a work permit and generally earn at least 80,000 a month (before taxes). Working abroad does not count.

They are not limited to certain jobs, but the higher the education the more points and there are of course some jobs that are reserved for Thai nationals. For these one would not get a work permit. Any job with a work permit will do, depending on the salary.

If married to a Thai the salary requirement is 40k baht to apply for citizenship.

True, but that is the minmimum requirement. One is normally not advised to apply based on he minimum income requirement.

Thanks for your prompt answers. In case she or he works for the Thai spouse's company, does she/he still have to get a work permit, please?

The work permit will be needed.

That's not 100% correct since that only applies for males. Females don't need to be working at all to apply for citizenship based on thai spouse
