My Thai sister in law passed away last week, I went with my wife and daughter to make a claim on her life insurance. Was surprised when my wife said that the insurance company officers would expect a tip of Baht 1000 to share between them as would the person in the village who collected the premiums. Was told it was the same at another insurance office we had to visit. Don't insurance agents in Thailand get paid commission and is it usual for them to expect/demand a tip

It is usual in Thailand if you come into money to share some of it - think when someone wins the lottery, they usually pay for a party with friends.

Title is misleading, I dont see where any Insurance company ripped anyone off, unless of course they didnt pay out, which no mention is made.
