having 2 jobs with one work permit

Featured Replies

Hello,

I ve just been hired by a company in Thailand. The package includes a work permit and a non B visa.

There is another thai company that wants to hire my services as a freelance they just ask me to provide them a copy of work permit and visa and also my personal income tax number.

My question : Can I work as a freelance for the 2nd company with the same work permit that the 1st company made for me?

Yes, the second company can be addded to the work permit as longs as you have a letter of permission from the first company>?

In addition, the second employer will also be required to submit all of the same paperwork, just like the first employer did.

How much does it cost for the second company to be added to the work permit.

It will be 3000 baht plus a 100 baht filing fee for a one year work permit.

Also note that when you renew, you will need two sets of paper work from both employers with explicit cross permissions from both.

The major problem with this dual employer WP is if you stop either employment (and particularly in my area with the 'main [or first] employer) you will be obliged to cancel the WP as a whole and apply afresh.

The fee to add a new employer to one's WP is, I recollect. 800 or 1,000 THB, not the full WP fee again.

Plus you need written permission from your first employer.

When this applied to me I had a 'limited partnership' which enabled me to work with or for whomever I saw fit while only filing 1 set of paperwork via my accountant. It also meant I couldnt be fired as I owned the company & wp.
