NAKHON PHANOM: -- A Laotian porter was arrested and 200 kilogrammes of marijuana were confiscated after drug traffickers smuggled the cache across the Mekong river to the Thai border of Tha Utane district of Nakhon Phanom province yesterday.

According to Tha Utane district officer Virakrich Vanichkul, local police, district officials and rangers have stepped up border patrols following increase in drug smuggling across the border from Laos using long tail boats.

The latest seizure yesterday came after drug traffickers landed a boat on the Thai bank with five sacks of marijuana on board.

Five Laotian porters were hired to unload the drugs but they managed to escape, except one.

The arrested porter admitted to be paid 5,000 baht each to unload the drug to a place awaiting transportation to another destination.

Why bringing it in from laos. In the 60s Thailand was famous for their thai sticks. Plenty of space to grow it here.

Let us thank Nancy Reagan for her war on drugs campaign. We got Thailand to step up their campaign and now it's almost legal in most of USA.
