Why would someone need letter from a Thai school translated?

Who, in their right mind, would send their kid to a Thai school if they couldn't read Thai?

I do Johnny, Nathan's at a bi-lingual school down our road.

Who in their right mind would live long-term in Thailand and NOT educate their kids in the national language?

How many are in your team?

I wouldn't think you'd need that many. Maybe just your wife.

We have 2 full-time buddies plus a handful of buddies who we'll be bringing in during peak times.

Ultimately we'd like to expand and be available 24/7 so, as the dust settles we'll be bringing more people in.

I'll keep it open until the thread starts to go quiet, then I'll close it down. Probably another week.

Are you saying you can't read Thai?

I think you misunderstand my point.

Do you speak to Nathan's(I assume your kid)teachers in English only?

All my kids speak/write fluent Thai/English

No I'm not saying that.

Yes you're correct, I am definitely misunderstanding your point.

I just assumed you were bored / looking for attention / unable to acknowledge not everybody lives the same lifestyle as you do.

If I'm wrong, please PM me and I'll do all I can to help you. Perhaps I can share with you an example that might be more relevant to your needs.

Here's an example of a problem and solution we encountered today.

We've been helping a lady get her out-of-warranty Hoover washing machine repaired.

We found 4 phone number for the Hoover Head Office in Bangkok

- The yellow pages number has been disconnected
- another number was also disconnected

- We found 2 working numbers, called all day and nobody answered either!

In the end we found a company that specializes in washer repairs, especially the Hoover brand.

How many of you would have persevered with that?

If it were me, I'd have long given up and just bought a new washer.

To me it feels like this service is more suited for helpless people who are lost in Thailand and don't even try to communicate with Thais. So they can call your number instead.

I would never give up that easily , but thats just me.

We'd definitely be offering more service to those 'helpless' people but there's still a lot we can do to help everybody, even if their Thai ability is fluent.

I'm writing an article explaining this right now, but briefly:

  • Even the simple act of calling up a company can be a waste of time here. (Phone numbers no longer correct, people not answering, long call queues etc.). Rather than take time from your lunchbreak, we'll just do it for you.

  • I've been a little coy about our errand-running service but this may soon overtake all the other work we do. We have a fleet of over 50 motorbike couriers (mostly in Bangkok) who all have smartphones and our buddies can help organize them to do far more than just move parcels from A to B.

    - They can pay bills - saving a lot of time wasted in queues

    - They can take your items to the post office

    - They can go shopping for you

and you can do this using your pre-paid balance so they don't need to visit you first for cash and you don't have to go to the ATM to make a withdrawal for them.

  • We can search every post, in every Thailand Facebook group in a single click, likewise we can post a question (on your behalf) into those groups in a single click.

I'll share the details of these later.

Wow, you have a fleet of 50 motorcycle couriers. I sense some grandiosity here, unless you are actually a mafia boss.

We've outsourced this. They provide the couriers and our buddies call them to communicate the errands.

It's been a huge relief because the task of recruiting them ourselves was, as you clearly appreciate, a massive job.

Do you provide a basic translation service? That is if I gave you a 50 page book in English, could you translate it to Thai? Or Thai to English.

At the moment the cheapest rate is around 200 baht a page for simple language Thai to English, but not done by a native speaker of English.

Thanks Neeranam,

This is the kind of work we'd not do.

There's already hundreds of companies offering basic translation services. They'd provide you with a highly-qualified, licensed and experienced translator (or team of translators) who do this kind of thing every day.

I want to be very clear on our target market. We are here solely to help people with day-to-day lifestyle frustrations.

We'll help with work that specialist companies wouldn't bother with / would charge too much.

Last week for example, Thomas created a poster for a lady who'd lost her dog for her to post round her village - I doubt you'll find a translation company willing to do that for a nominal fee.

Where we CAN help though is ...

  • We could help you find a freelance translator to do the work for a fixed rate
  • We do have some provisional connections with translation services and we could get you a discount if you work with them (earning commissions is not part of our business plan so whenever we are offered any, we just pass those on to the client as a discount)

I published an article a couple of days ago which expands on where we can and can't help people.

Wow, what an amazing day. Thanks to those of you who've signed up and tested us out.

We've been:

  • Working with Big C to make sure our client got his delivery on time
  • Helping a family find a nanny
  • Researching properties for sale within resorts
  • Calling the cinema to ask about special promotions
  • Researching mobile phone insurance
  • Conference-calling with a Thai nanny who failed to show up 2 mornings this week so she could explain to our clients why.
  • Checking a Groupon deal to see if it's genuinely good value or if Thai companies can offer comparable prices without all the razzle-dazzle.

I don't think I've had more than 5 minutes uninterrupted today which has been quite a wake-up call.

I'm taking a much needed shower, ordering in some spare-ribs and I'll be back later to make sure I reply to everybody who's been kind enough to post.

Oh what a super salesman you are.....hahaha i got this far and cant belive that 99% of posts were actualy positve to wards your enterprise...just makes me laugh...i would have expected the normal sarcastic TV posters to make a meal out of you.

Got your mates posting?

Cant belive there are so many basket cases living in Thailand but hey there is something in this, some fine tuning and hard work you just might find your "angle" though calling to get someone to tell the maid what to do sounds rather silly i mean why would you hire someone you cant comunicate with? and guys....google is your friend.

I wasnt putting you down, im well aware that a simple thing like cutting grass turned into a multi trades business employing many contractors and making Jim a house hold name in Melbourne i think its funny having to call up someone to get them to direct my maid when im standing right next to her.

I would be suprised if there were more than just a few who couldnt handle day to day life in Thailand and needed someone to do it for them, i mean moving there was part of an adventure why hole up and let someone else do it?

I do think you have something but it isnt comunicating with the maid or looking for some obscure machine part when all you need to do is search out a few tool makers for heavens sake...so funny im pissing myself here...

But hey good luck with it im sure you will find your nich market and do well i also appreciate your well written posts on this subject you sound soooooo smooooooooth....you just got to be successful.

Give him a chance , when you look hard enough Thailand is full of desperate farangs that can't look after themselves. So yes, if they can pay it's business alright.
