Hello

So, My Thai visa is Non-immigrant Ed. Back in December, since I had less than 6 months in validity when I was visiting my home country, I had to extend my passport in my country so my passport can still be able to travel to other counties. I haven't been back to Thailand since but this weekend, I will be coming to bkk so I want to know if I they would just transfer my stamp to my new passport upon arrival at airport immigration like some other people do when they transfer their stamp upon departure.

Thanks!!

They will only stamp you into the country in the new passport.

You show the valid visa or re-entry permit in your old passport on entry and they will stamp the date allowed by it in your new passport.

If you have an extension of stay you will then have to go to immigration to have the stamps transferred. Immigration does not transfer visas.

If you have a multiple entry visa you will have to use both passports until your visa expires and you get a new one in your new passport.

Hi ubonjoe,

Yea, I no longer wish to extend my visa as I've finished my last semester of school and I'm just back to do some moving out stuff. So, I don't need to specifically go to the immigration office again, right? And yes, my visa is still valid in my old passport and I have a reentry permit also.

Thanks again.

When I go to the UK I am getting a new passport as I can't be bothered going back and fore to BKK, so I just carry my new passport and show my old one ? Which has my 're entry stamp and yearly visa in it, yes?

Indeed. But assuming that your "yearly visa" is, indeed, a full-page non-O visa issued by a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in foreign parts, you will need to carry both passports around with you until the visa itself expires, since visas cannot be transferred from old to new passports.

On the other hand, if your "yearly visa" is, in fact, a half-page extension of stay stamp issued by your local immigration office, then you will need to take your old and new passports around to said office to get the stamps transferred. For this purpose you will need to provide old and new passport copies (including TM6 departure card), a completed Transfer Stamp To New Passport form downloadable from http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/807225-uk-embassy-introduce-online-appointment-service-for-consular-services/ and, in all probability, a letter issued by the British Embassy in Bangkok as per the attached template.

If you have a re-entry permit that indicates to me you have an extension of stay not a visa.

What are going to do when your current extension ends. I assume you plan on leaving the country before that date which will be equal to the permit to stay date you will get on entry using the re-entry permit.

Without transferring your stamps before leaving the country you could have problems on departure from the country. They may question you as to why you didn't do it.

I once got a new US passport in BKK (my old one was full) and neglected to transfer my entry stamp to the new pp. Had a lot of trouble when leaving the country; had to meet with like 3 layers of supervisors. I didn't know what the problem was (I really didn't know the rule); but I just smiled & bowed and was generally pleasant so finally they stamped my exit, scolded me not to do it again, and sent me on my way.
