NEW YORK, 12 March 2015 (NNT) – The Minister of Social Development and Human Security met with the Lao Women’s Union (LWU) Vice President to discuss on solving the issue of human trafficking in women and children in a CSW session at UN headquarter.

The Minister of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) Minister Adul Sangsingkeo, along with related officials, met with the Vice President of Lao Women’s Union (LWU) Bundith Prathoumvanh, during the 59th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) session at the UN headquarters in New York City. They engaged in a bilateral meeting to solve the human trafficking issue, especially trafficking cases of women and children.

The Thai and Lao officials have also discussed mutual cooperation to prevent and suppress the human trafficking activity.

Both sides are also considering a mutual cooperative effort to provide protection for Lao workers in Thailand, and to initiate a skills development project geared towards women. This project will promote the employment opportunities of women and will reduce the risk of human trafficking that they face.

The 59th Commission on the Status of Women session begun since 9 March 2015 and concludes on 20 March 2015. UN member states, UN entities, and the ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations from around are also participating at this global event.
