geovalin
More than 400 Pakistani Christian immigrants who fled to Thailand have been arrested by Thailand authorities, pastors in Bangkok told CBN News. The arrested Christians fled Pakistan because many were accused of blasphemy and threatened by militant Muslims. According to the report, some of the Christians are converts from Islam and have looked to churches and others for food and housing during their time in Thailand. The Pakistani Christians have also sought work and refugee status, with some even having scheduled meetings with the United Nations. The Thai government, however, has said that these Christians are illegal immigrants and must be deported. Despite more than 5 million Christians living in Pakistan, the country remains one of the most hostile locations for Christians. The notorious blasphemy laws in the predominately Islamic country have severe consequences on religious minorities. One Pakistani Christian mother, Asia Bibi, is facing the death penalty after being accused of blasphemy in 2009. She has remained detained since then, and has yet to have her appeal heard by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Many "vigilante mobs" often react to blasphemy cases by taking matters into their own hands. One Christian couple gained national attention after they were beaten and burned to death by a Muslim mob after it was discovered that the Christians burned verses of the Koran. The arrested Christians who fled from Pakistan believed Thailand would provide a safe haven for them after they escaped religious persecution. Except they hadn't. Later emerged it was a malicious accusation made by someone with a grudge against them.

Popular Post Suradit69
That's funny, christian pakistanis "flee" to a buddhist country. Why not try israel? Meanwhile, pakistani muslims flooding the uk. Religious people... if you like to stay sane, don't try to understand them. Not sure why this particular group were (allegedly) being persecuted. Being a Christian in Pakistan is not generally a problem. When I stayed in Lahore I attended the Sacred Heart Cathedral most Sundays and one of the oldest schools there for Pakistani girls is Sacred Heart High School. Also when I was there I knew an American couple who were involved in missionary work for some Protestant denomination without any problem ... and that included the period when the US embassy evacuated most personnel and most airlines suspended flights to Pakistan around the time of the Sept 11 bombing in New York and aftermath. Of course if they were from some rural area or if they had renounced Islam, there would be trouble from extremists who need a target to justify themselves. Sad to hear of their plight if they are genuine refugees in fear of their lives, but wonder why/how they ended up in Thailand. That's funny, christian pakistanis "flee" to a buddhist country. Why not try israel? Meanwhile, pakistani muslims flooding the uk. Religious people... if you like to stay sane, don't try to understand them. Far more mayhem has been caused in the name of patriotism, nationalism, colonialism and economic exploitation. FloridaExport
Apostasy (converting from Islam to another religion) is an offense punishable by death under Sharia law. No wonder they got the hell out of that backwards poophole of a country. It would be more civil for the Thai authorities to put them to death than to send them back to Pakistan where they would still be put to death but in a more brutal fashion. Also, for clarification, Pakistan doesn't officially put anyone to death for Apostasy, but there are people who take those kinds of things into their own hands. Hmm, and because the State Department of the United States has not deemed it necessary to consult with you, you assume nothing is being discussed? Or are you saying State has informed you? Keep in mind that with the current Congressional majority in the U.S., we are seemingly against immigration. Otherwise, one might see a Comprehensive Immigration Bill. No, they are too righteous to consult anyone. But we have been taught not to hear what they speak. Rather, we need only to see what they do. The natives of USA taught us, "White men speak with fork tongues". Edited March 13, 2015 by trogers
ezzra
I happened to personally know one of them who comes to help me with my computer for a fee, those people are simply being persecuted by their own government and their life is in mortal danger if they will be deported back there, and all that just for being Christians in a staunch Muslim country, here in Thailand they live in poverty, not allowed to engage in work to feed them selves, and often are being thrown to jail if they did, the person I know barely has enough money to feed his wife and kid and live in a squalid conditions, these are a very desperate and destitute people who has nowhere to go, unlike the economical migrants to Australia and other country, and yet, the world allow this to happened, in day light, and in the open and no one care, and now the Thai government wants to throw them back to the lions, to be jailed and killed by their own people.... Daniel Ingalls
I'm glad the US Consulate here in Chiang Mai has a secured gate and main entrance . Sure would hate to see them storm the door claiming Political asylum, We have enough Religious Christian Fanatics in America. Go back to Pakistan, infiltrate their places of worship, take hold of their Islamic ways. Then slowly change their ways, introduce tolerance, and servitude and fortitude of compassion to other faiths. But to hop and skip to the bordering country does not solve the problem. Thailand has their own problem with Muslims in the South.
whitemouse
These people are true refugees, every non believer or a person practicing 'wrong' religion in Islamist nation is under threat, their lives can be taken away by this horrific religion, Islam! Thailand should give them shelter, and let them stay.

Thailand has their own problem with Muslims in the South. Where does it say these people are fanatics? I'll save you some time, nowhere. Do you think they would have fled if they genuinely did not fear for their lives? To live the <deleted> up life they have now? Don't think so. The problems in the south have very little to do with religion and a lot to do with nationalism. Those in conflict with the state do not regard themselves as Thai and see the Thai state as an occupying force. There are many Thai citizens who are Muslims and cause no more or less strife than their non Muslim fellow citizens.
