BANGKOK: -- The Suphanburi police today escorted notorious drug trafficker ‘Benz Tasai’ to the Suphanburi provincial court for permission to detain him for questioning under heavy police security guards.

No bail has been granted following evidence that revealed the man is responsible for a major drug syndicate based in the central plains as well as other networks on the western border of Thailand.

Adisak Srisa-ard, otherwise known as ‘Benz Tasai’, was arrested on Wednesday in Sangklaburi district in Kanchanaburi province while secretly sneaked into the Thai border from Myanmar border and travelled in a van to visit his wife in Ratchaburi.

Chief of the Suphanburi police Pol Col Sutthi Phuangpikun said investigation revealed the suspect was the head of a drug syndicate based in Suphanburi and neighboring provinces in the central plains of the country.

Furthermore, it has been discovered that his network also covers the western border of the country with Myanmar and is composed of almost 40 individuals.

The court was asked to reject for any bail attempt of the man because the suspect is involved in a serious capital crime and has threatened to kill all police officers in Sri Prajan police station in Suphanburi province.

Charges of drug usage has also be filed against him as his urine sample tested positive for narcotics.

He already faced drug trafficking and having in possession of firearms charges.

As for Adisak’s claim that he has connection with a senior police officer who is also the deputy chief of the Suphanburi police, the police chief of Suphanburi said he would investigate and so far no documents or witnesses have surfaced to give credence to the suspect’s claims.

Adisak admitted to order drugs from drug rings across the border with the latest order amounted to 200,000 crazy pills or methamphetamines worth about 100 million baht.

All the drives were delivered to over 30 agents across the country, he said.

Yes, congratulations to the BIB for catching a big fish for a change. I hope you have many more successes of this type. At present the ratio of arrest of mule minnows to big fish seems to be about 500 to 1. Room for improvement methinks.
