Haze-causing hot spots detected in 42 provinces

BANGKOK, 13 March 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has detected several small areas with a relatively high temperature known as hot spots which might be the cause of the ongoing haze crisis in the North.

Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Suphot Tovichakchaikul disclosed that 209 hot spots have been found in 42 provinces across the country, adding that these spots may be the source of wildfires and haze in Myanmar and northern Thailand.

The Pollution Control Department meanwhile reported levels of small particulate matter smaller than 10 microns (PM10) have declined in many parts of the North.

Areas where levels of PM10 remain above the safety level of 120 micrograms per cubic meter include Mae Sot district in Tak province, Muang district and Mae Sai district in Chiang Rai province, Muang district in Chiang Mai province and Muang district in Mae Hong Son province.

Local people have been urged to refrain from slash-and-burn farming in order to lessen the intensity of the crisis.

From this map it looks like Thailand is by far the biggest offender. What am I missing?

I've got a "Hot Tip" on what they'll do about the "Detected HOT SPOTS."

They'll have a meeting.

What more would you expect of them?

To remedy these hot spots, after considerable time in meetings all the department heads came to an joint conclusion

We ban the sales of all matches and cigarette lighters till the rainy season begins. Without matches, fires will slowly

diminish. All agreed this looked good on paper!

Can't wait for the spin masters at TAT to mount a campaign to lure tourists to the "New Northern Hot Spots". Gotta find a way to make a buck baht off of the miserable conditions that shroud all of us here in Northern Thailand. thumbsup.gif

"has detected several small areas with a relatively high temperature known as hot spots "

i hope this is a lost in translation

otherwise they have no idea what a hotspot is

I thought a hotspot was my pub at the weekend. But not big enough to locate on the map, no no there it is just left of India.

Sorry my mistake , just right of India and over towards Myanmar , I lost the hot spot through the smog. Please make no comments I am going now.

Also in our Pathum Thani province we had to close doors and windows and also the air conditioners to prevent a thick smoke entering our living and bedrooms.

From our upper floor we could see high flames at a distance of about 500 meters and every year it is the same.

It seems if we would file a complaint at the nearest police station they will not be very happy with the work we give them : is there a central complaint tel nr to call to?

PM me for Somchai's phone number, he has three plastic buckets and lives near a klong and will be happy to douse the flames for a relatively small price.
