BANGKOK: -- The Region 7 Provincial Police Command has set up an investigation panel to probe into allegations by the notorious drug trafficker Benz Tasai that a senior police officer of a police station took his bribes.

Deputy commissioner of the Provincial Police Division Pol Lt Gen Wirapong Chuenoakdee who ordered the appointment of the probe team also instructed that the finding must be completed in a week.

He also advised that investigators must exercise the greatest restraint and be delicate as the case was a sensitive matter.

The movement by the provincial police came after Benz Tasai or Adisak Srisa-ard claimed had paid numerous bribes to a senior police officer holding the title of deputy superintendent.

The notorious drug trafficker in the country’s western border was escorted to the Suphanburi provincial court for extended detention.

He was later remanded to the Suphanburi provincial prison now security was placed at maximum with closed-circuit TV closely monitoring his movements 24 hours a day.

He is also only being allowed to eat food that has been prepared by the facility and nothing from the outside in what authorities said was for his personal safety.

Furthermore, a minder has been posted with him in the prison to provide close supervision and his food has been prepared by the prison’s kitchen and no outside food is being allowed in.

For the first month, authorities will keep him under close supervision within the facility and he will not be allowed into the grounds to mingle with other prisoners for his own personal safety.

Only one of his associates from his drug syndicate is also being held in same prison and authorities are confident that his safety can be guaranteed.

The case gained public interest when it was discovered that Benz Tasai was the leader of a major drug syndicate.

He posted on Facebook claiming some officers had taken bribes from his drug business. He then threatened to kill all police officers at Sriprachan police station in Suphanburi province after they tried to hunt him down.

Until the day that the RTP is run as a meritocracy, criminals will always enjoy relationships with senior police. To save anybody time, there will be an "investigation", no evidence of wrongdoing will be discovered. Case forgotten. In case Mr.Benz did actually manage to record damning evidence of the senior policeman's collusion there will be an inactive post created for him whereby he will rake in a life's salary without lifting a finger. Now, remind me why the norm for RTP is to be corrupt.

"He also advised that investigators must exercise the greatest restraint and be delicate as the case was a sensitive matter."

Translation: find nothing, do nothing and, if you do inadvertently find something, say nothing.
