Land Transport Department set to overhaul truck rest areas countrywide

BANGKOK, 15 March 2015 (NNT) – The Department of Land Transports is preparing to revamp all truck rest areas across the country to improve road safety and the land transport system.

The Department Land Transport said the major revamp will be divided into three phases, starting officially from 2016 until 2030. All 41 rest areas to undergo the overhaul will be categorized into two types: truck rest areas and truck services areas.

Truck rest areas, which number 28, are equipped with basic necessities such as washrooms, restaurants and coffee shops. Truck service areas which number 13 are more comprehensive than truck rest areas in that they provide repair and maintenance services as well as a safety control center, which links data of registered trucks to the Department of Land Transport.

The program is being piloted at the truck rest area in Non Sung district of Nakhon Ratchasima. The facility, with a capacity of handling in excess of 40 vehicles, will be serviceable in April. The Department of Land Transport expects the effort to reduce traffic accidents caused by drivers’ fatigue and boost efficiency of the land transport system.

No "handouts" in Thailand.

Try Australia. Don't bother if you are an Australian born, white, employed, single male.
