Activists await news on rescue of Pata Zoo’s 'Bua Noi'
By Coconuts Bangkok

BANGKOK: -- While the rescue of a gorilla held in captivity above a Bangkok department store for three decades has been heralded in foreign media, the local activists who’ve campaigned for her release remain skeptical.

Sinjira Apaitan, who last year led an unsuccessful campaign for authorities to order the release of Bua Noi from the Pata Zoo, said yesterday the news seemed too good to be true.

“You can’t just move the gorilla overnight,” she said. “We’re now waiting for the authorities and the shopping mall to hold an official press conference.”

A report about the imminent release of the gorilla held captive since 1983 by Australian media Saturday claimed “Thai authorities now acknowledge that the high-rise zoo breaches a raft of guidelines and have ordered the gorilla and other large animals to be removed.”

Pata denies it agrees to free Bua Noi the Gorilla

BANGKOK: -- Pata Pinklao shopping mall Monday denied that it has decided to shut down its zoo and agreed to give its gorilla, Bua Noi, to another zoo. Narathip Yimnian, the Pata zoo manager, said the report originated from a rumor.

The Daily Mirror has reported that the Thai authorities found the Pata Zoo had violated several rules so the zoo would be closed. An online petition, started last year, calling for all the animals to be released from the zoo has been signed by almost 50,000 people.

I would like to know who had the bright idea to arrange this Mall with a Zoo? Why did it take 20 years to have this animal

removed to a better location? Was it an old movie that raised awareness of this Ape? King Kong, Free Wili, The re-make Planet of the Apes?........just curious.
