Filmon Android App - usable for you?

Recommended Posts

I was trying to watch the Scottish League Cup final on BBC Scotland using the filmon app but it was completely unusable because it was freezing every minute or so.

I put it down to my True Internet being useless but I'm wondering what other people's experiences are with filmon and True together or individually.

I'm finding True is becoming a waste of time for any kind of streaming. ...

I use the filmon app (ftv) on Kodi and totally agree with you. Up to a couple of weeks ago it worked perfectly. Everything works fine for streaming with True up to about 5p.m., after that it's a waste of time. I was watching the cricket with crictime.com and it worked perfectly and then started buffering at 5p.m. everyday.

I have complained to True twice last week and accused them of throttling their International Network, which they denied, but would not or could not give a reason for the slowing down. They said they would monitor my my speed for a few days and said they would send an engineer if they found any problems. Take that with a pinch of salt.

I have True internet 30 Mbps down and 3 Mbps up. The problem is that the alternatives 3BB and TOT seem to be just as bad.

I find filmon to be pretty low quality streams also.. For the SD free ones anyway.

If your using the app to access UK TV channels.. Try this http://tvplayer.com/apps/

I get much clearer streaming, little to no buffering in the time I have tested it, and a much nicer UI EPG and remote control system. Sure filmon has many more channels, but this has the UK ones at a much higher quality.

So grab the APK and sideload it..

Possibly why I like it so much as its well integrated with my FireTV remote etc.. Its easy to see when an app has been coded natively for the remote, I have sideloaded the adnroid iPlayer app and while it has some features the fireTV app doesnt have, its so much less easy to use.

or here in your web browser direct from filmon ..

But if the filmon channels are breaking up or not good enough quality.. Simply using those same streams on a browse isn helping.

Having a tinker around with TVcatchup. Looks promising alternative.

I am finding for 'live' UK tv, this is superb and the 2.5 Mbit stream working well.. EPG, nice overlays, etc etc..

If you have an android TV box and dont have access via the play store.. Get the APK from above.. Solid streams.

It says the apk is 11M but what it downloads is 2.7M.

Something dodgy?

Hence why I said grab an APK and sideload..

Shame its proving difficult as its a really nice app.. Much nicer than filmon. the fireTV iPlayer doesnt include the live streams that the stock android iPlay does.. Hence this app handles uk live for me.. iPlayer for catch up BBC.

This gives you an idea of the kind of stream quality and overlays EPG etc.
